Hey guys I'm having trouble figuring out the last part of getting my doors to work.

Should the drivers side door locking mechanism match the passengers side? The passengers side has an actuator of some sort?

Currently if I try to connect the door lock rod to the mechanism, it comes in at a parallel angle where it should be coming in at a perpendicular if it was to connect at that area.

I'm guessing I'm missing some rod mechanism but I want to confirm as fsm doesnt have much detail on this.

 

Is it a convertible? S4 or S5?

Im not sure, only venturing a guess, but maybe only the passenger side has the actuator so that when the driver unlocks the door with the key (maybe 2 twists of the key like my camry) it automatically unlocks the passenger side?

Like I said, this is only a guess/thought..but seems logical.

I havent looked down inside my passenger door on my 90 GXL. I wonder if it has one. I'll check when I get home tonight. The door panel is already off anyway so it will be a quick look.

 

It's follower locks, so only the passenger side has an actuator. It unlocks/locks (supposed to anyway) when the driver door switch is used or the key on the outside.

What if my wife was being followed in a parking lot and she unlocked HER door and the passenger side unlocked also for the stalker to get in?!?!

Yes...

Disconnect the passenger door lock actuator.

You can do a keyless entry system that has a "second unlock" wire and that will do driver priority and unlock the other door with a double tap.

For example, this unit has it and it is called "second status/rear defogger output and is a Blue White wire. This is a low current wire so you'll need relays to control door actuators. You can also use trunk pop for second unlock so that you dont accidentally double tap the unlock button and just use the trunk button for second unlock.

 

Maybe something is wrong with mine? Only follows lock, not unlock. 10ae.

 

Thanks for the responses guys. The only thing I'm confused about now is how the lock rod is suppose to attach to the hole. I might be using the wrong rod or still missing some hardware but I will take a better picture tonight

 

 

Thats still the passenger side I believe. If the driver side does not have an actuator then my locking rod should connect to the hole in the pictures below. It's my drivers side.

No, it doesn't attach there.

I attached my aftermarket actuator to the rod running from the inside door lock switch.

Aftermarket actuators come with a clamping system to attach it to the rods currently there.

 

that is correct. coincedentally i have my panels off as im i was trying to replace my door handles. i have however have an actuator to my driver side locking rod and some pretty **** poor wiring from some hack job alarm system.

Winter storm today, so I am not taking my door panel off. Like I said, the easiest way to do an aftermarket actuator is to grab the door lock rod between the interior switch and the door handle. It's a very straight run which makes it easy and its right on the front of the door when the panel is removed. You also have plenty of space to mount the actuator solenoid to the door.

 

If it doesnt attach there, and if the drivers side doesnt have an actuator, where do I attach it? Am I missing hardware?
