Door Lock Advise

I need to know what I can do about a bum door lock. It locks and everything, but I cant get my key in all the way to unlock it from the outside. It almost looks like someone "tried" to pick it or something. The little metal peice that should be covering the key slot is not longer there. I think it broke off and got stuck in the lock. What can I do to fix this? I was thinking about switching it with a junkyard lock, but it would suck having two different keys. Let me know what you guys think I can do to fix it. Thanks in advance.

The metal piece broke off and was forced into the lock by the key. Same thing happened to mine.

Remove the door handle/lock assembly, then disassemble the cylinder. There are a few little parts, but if you pay attention, you can get it back together pretty easily. Took me about 5 minutes in my driveway to fix mine.

Its possible to take the lock from the wrecking yard and readjust the tumbler to fit your present key. I learned how to do this on the forum!

yeah my '89 has the same problem. the previous owner said it broke one wintry morning and hasn't worked since. i'm trying to locate some really tiny picks, like ones a dentist or locksmith would use.

Tiny picks won't do it (I tried). Just disassemble the lock. It's pretty easy actually.

I have problems with my door locks too... but not that problem.l

I have to hold the handles to lock the door... and the driver side door will unlock with anything... as long as I turn the slotted metal at the front.. it will open.. I can use my fingernails if I haven't cut them for a while...

Any suggestions?

If you want to make a key fit a lock from the wrecking yard, you might be interested in this thread and the reply by ASHERWOOD : https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=37703

The same thing happened to my TII. IMO, there is no point in getting another lock. It wasn't all that hard to take apart, but you need to watch out for the little ballbearing and spring on the tumbler, and make sure that you don't forget which of the 7 "pins" goes where. Note that you need to raise and lower the window to get to certain parts. It took me one day to disassemble, clean, lubricate, and reassemble my door, and I'm slow.
