Don't know what happened...

So I was reving my engine to see how much smoke actually came out. (The day before my car smoked like a mother). Anyways today was fine but when i revved one last time, i saw something flying out of my engine area, which was open. When i turned the car off, i looked around and it was belt. I didnt know which one it was until i looked at teh alternator? I think it was it. And it was missing its belt.
Anyways, i want to know the imediate reprecussions (sp?) that could happen and how much it would cost to get and install a new one. Also if its possible to install it myself.

your alternator wont turn, witch equals a dead battery, witch equals you stranded.

It costs about 5 dollars to replace. its not too hard to do.
just wiggle the new belt over the clutch fan an on too the pullies. then tighten the alternator to spec.

bamn! no dead battery
