Does the RX7 have a transmission ID number?
so im looking everywhere for some kind of ID number for the rx7 trans but I cant seem to find it anywhere. you know, like how GM has there 4L60 trans, im looking for its ID number. its ~1990 T2 5 speed. I looked on another form and it talked about there being many variants of the transmission in both J-spec and A-spec markets but you would think there would still be an identification number on it somewhere, right?
Also does anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for one of these or know of any reputable sites that sells them.

As far as basic rebuilding is concerned, you'll need bearings, synchros, and some gear oil RTV sealer
The sealant can be bought at O'Reillys, no big deal.
The synchros I got from the Mazda dealership.
Bearings I found a kit online. As long as the make and fitment match up, they're the same thing. You just want the same make of Japanese bearings.
Here's the bearing kit I think I used a few years ago... https://transpartswarehouse.com/bk19...kit-87-95.html
It comes with synchros in it I believe.
You don't need to use the pan gasket, as Mazda just RTV'd the original pans in place.
Also note, if you change the end bearings, you will need to check and see if it needs shimmed or your gears will start chewing each other apart when you start it.

glad you asked! there are basically 3 FC turbo variations. the S4, and S5, which i think would share most of the bearings and synchros. the third is the early S4, which has a different 5th gear synchro.
there is a Mazda code for the thing, but its not on the trans so it doesn't matter too much. its like R 152 or something like that

Cobra has a kit that includes the syncros for $400 more, or the synchos sold as their own kit for $31. Yes, 400 vs 31. They've changed the kits since I last ordered from the site, so I'm not sure about the accuracy of their contents.
The transmission ID is a clear plastic sticker on the top of the bell housing. I imagine they've fallen off for most people. It won't do you any good though; I've not seen any websites that identify with it.
