It's driving my insane

i had the same problem; its not a vacuum leak. (if it were, your car wouldn't idle)

i ended up losing the clip for the electrical connector on the AFM. the connector would work itself halfway off, causing interruptions like that. check that connector and any other connectors to see if they are loose.
