Does a cone filter need a bracket to support it?

If I put a cone and adaptor plate directly onto the MAF, do I need to support it like the K&N kit does? Will it flop around, doesn't the MAF need to be level? Thanks.

The AFM must stay level and in its proper mounting position. Otherwise you will have problems.

If you are using the stock TID (on turbo) or the intake tube (for NA), you should use a bracket to secure the AFM.

I had mine hanging from a string (to the amusement of a few forum members) before I built my cold air box.

i have mine held up to the one peice of braket with a zip-tie. scoff all you want, but it works fine and isnt that noticible since i use just 1 black jumbo tie. it makes it easeir to take the intake/snorkel on and off.

If it is not mounted then you run the chance of it rubbing on your AC line. Mine almost cut right through the metal hard line after around 2 months. Luckily I caught it and fabbed a mount.

That's almost exactly what I figured out after staring at the left over brackets for about ten minutes.

I made a bracket simialar to the one in the link by bending some sheet metal from the ecu cover plate on my parts car, before that i have bungies that allowed to much movement and cut the filter and scratched paint under the hood

Any difference in bracket locations for a NA? One of those pictures looks like a turbo.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here just want to do it right, thanks.

I started out saying I was not going to mod anything on this car since it was in such nice stock condition, but then I needed a cat for inspection so I got a high flow...may as well keep going now.

doesn't matter where you put the bracket as long as it hold the afm still. all you need a a few strips of thick sheet metal, bend em till they line up with the hole on the afm and the other end lines up with something to mount to
