Does auto tranny need pilot bearing?

I was working on the motor I pulled out of my car ('86GXL) and I noticed that there is a pilot bearing in the e-shaft. The car has an automatic transmission (unfortunately) and I was wondering if the auto tranny needs a pilot bearing. I never heard of that, so is this a sign that the motor has been swapped out of a different car?

no pilot bearing for auto's. In fact, Im surprised the torque convertor fit together properly, with that PB in it's way. It's designed to sit inside the end of the eshaft by just a little actually.

I didn't think it was supposed to be there cause the FSM and Haynes doesn't show it for an auto tranny. Car ran fine with it there though. I just noticed it in there while me and my gear puller were getting our asses kicked by the rear counterweight.
