i hear those Dogmissions are great to drive on the street. It sure would be nice though to have a sequential 6-spd to keep the revs up on a rotary.

one good reason for six speed? I don't know, I'm usually good at 5th gear on the highway, but that's just me....although that might be because I can't stand the sound when it's running too low in the revs, you know that rumbly sound when it's running like 1K revs in 5th gear with the throttle about halfway? *shudders* anyway...

Dogmission transmissions ( I learned this from another thread) use a different type of tooth on the gears, and it allows for them to be shifted without need of a clutch, although it does tear them apart a little quicker if you don't use it...

sequential tranny's are (I think) the normal kind that we use everyday. hmmm...wonder if I can find that thread.....*heads off for the search button*

actually a sequential tranny shifts more like a motorcycle
my buddy has one for his vw....you just tap the shifter and it shifts
but i heard there is a guy in new zealand that makes a 6 spd tranny for the fc's and it runs around 2,000 or so

Because if you had a sequential 6-spd you could stay in your powerband better. For example lets say you shift at 8K in 2nd, and you go to 5500rpm in 3rd. With a sequential 6-spd it would shift into a higher rpm, ie going from 8K in 2nd to 6500rpm in 3rd, keeping you in your powerband.

All those numbers were used as examples only.

You could also get some better gas mileage for all of you 80mph cruisers.

The explaination is "A straight cut gear". In stock transmissions, the forward gears are helical cut like this:

The reverse gear is straight cut like in the pic below. Thats why when you go in reverse, your car sounds like a wind-up toy, you hear the teeth of the gears clacking together. I can't imagine hearing that at 80mph on the interstate, though I would love to have one of those trannys.

5th gear as your direct 1:1, and still maintain an overdrive? Better acceleration in third and fourth gears since they are a closer ratio?

a dog box can hold an *** load of hp. I know a guy with one in his R32. And yes it does have some gear whine while driving. Gotta sacrfice for the reliability of the tranny though. I plan to do a dog box in my FC as well as one in my wrx when it becomes a track car.

That shifting without the clutch is pretty wild too, its like the same speed as a sequential but with the fun of an H pattern.

Thank you, I knew someone would come along and fill in the gaps in my knowledge...
