Does anyone make a pinion snubber for FC's? I'm going to replace my front diff. mount with the Mazdatrix upgrade and want to know if a snubber would benefit the car.

Its not necessary just a nice upgrade. Its worth doing, they cost $5 and takes 15 minutes to install if you're diff is out...

really any bump-stop will work, even something from a RWD truck suspension....

as far as benefits of it go:

if you're beating the car (hard launches, drag and such) this will prevent the driveshaft from torquing the rear end upwards to the point where it will stress the mounts........meaning your mounts will never get overstressed since the diff will be retained at operable angles at all times. (save for a little twisting side to side)

IMHO - good, worthwhile mod

edit: PM Amur, he has a good write up on it and will probably tell you what he used for the actual snubber

A pinion snubber is an awesome thing to add if your already going in there.

It will save you time and labor later on.

I've replaced 3 diff mounts and am now tired of them so I pay other people to do it.
I also don't drag race now. broken parts suck.

While it's out you might want to look into the Mazdatrix competition mounts, or some other polyurethane mounts for the rear.

I wound up ripping 3 rear diff mounts out (one the first time, two the second time) and suffered two broken axles cause they were dry-rotted.

Not a hard repair, but a pain in the ***, and time consuming. Pinion snubber wouldn't hurt though.

Also, it seems like Mazda put the rear diff mounts in backwards, at least on my two spare diff covers, having the metal lip at the top, rather than the bottom... Unless I'm mistaken...but after having trouble with the mounts in the factory way, I reversed them, and everything has been fine.

Rear of the diff will want to rip down, towards pavement, while front lifts up, which will rip those mounts right out of the rear. Know what I'm saying?

Found your PM.

There is *nothing* special about pinion snubbers. They are just lumps of rubber with a bolt sticking out. They don't make 'special' ones for FCs any more than they make 'special' lug nuts for FCs.
Just walk into *any* parts store and ask the guy behind the counter to look them up. Unless he shows you something big enough for the space shuttle, buy it.

They're either cylindrical or bullet-shaped and about the size of a tennis ball. Have a stack of washers nearby that will fit on the bolt, so you can fine tune how close to the diff it will be. Put a washer and a lock washer under the nut (inside the car.) Thread lock wouldn't hurt, too, since if you do this properly you'll never touch it again...

Yes, summit sells them as "Bump Stops".

ENS-9-9103R - Red polyurethane, 1.5 inches tall
ENS-9-9103G - Black polyurethane, 1.5 inches tall

How close is the diff normally to the chassis?
Is 1.5 inches tall enough?

The part numbers listed above only cost $8.50 for a pair.
I guess I'll try it and see.

Check here for some part numbers and where to install. http://www.torquecentral.com/showthr...pinion+snubber

I did this almost 2 years ago. Since then I've broken my diff before I've broken the mount.

I didn't even have to remove the rear to install mine. I just had to lower it a little to give me some room.

I found mine at AutoZone and they didn't have one in a package by itself, but it came with two one long and one short. I used the long one. It was in the help section and shown in the picture from Torquecentral.
