Does anyone have pics of a vmount setup on a fc?

That is one of a few different designs that will work.

Yes and no. The original Knightsports hood is nice. That one is a second rate copy. The craftsmanship is average at best. You can find the original hood at www.rotaryextreme.com Just my .02 anyway.

Well, since I'm new to this, what are the advantages of a v-mount set up versus a FMIC or a topmount? Which is the cheapest out of the 3 to do to the FC and which one has the most power potential? Also, how does the vmount work? In the FMIC, the air passes directly through to the intercooler. With a vmount, does the air pass through the radiator and then into the intercooler, or is there a separate duct? I'm just wondering.

Do you guys think that the vents on this hood are too close to the windshield to be effective for a v-mount? Many of the vented hoods I've seen on v-mount applications are closer to the front of the car in order to let the air passing through the intercooler escape. But I'm no physicist and airflow, high/low pressure areas are not my specialty.

If you look at the ducting on the underside of the hood, it should work perty good for V-Mount.

Ok, so one person says it will work, and the other says it will not work. You guys are talking about the same hood right?

That hood would work just fine for a V-mount setup. You would just have to check and make sure that the IC would clear the bottom of the hood. But the vents in that hood would be great for a V-mount.

The problem with mounting it behind the rad is that the rad ends up heating the IC, defeating it's purpose.

88-92 Celcius? Thats close to 200 farenheit. Are you sure that is right?

i think the hood would help pull air through, but it looks like it fits like crap- you can see the gaps from the pic

v-mount is basically useless with the stock hood
the air is not going anywhere

If you were to just mount the intercooler straight behind the radiator, you'd be getting airflow to it near 200 degrees at points. That wouldn't cool anything and would actually serve to heat it up under most conditions. That would be counter productive and no intercooler would probably be better. The 3rd gens did have the intercooler physically located behind (more appropriately above) the radiator but there was full ducting to allow air from the nose to cool it. It was not hot air flowing through the unit so is still did it's job. The fans off of the back of the radiator would still blow hot air onto the end tanks of the intercooler though and this would effect efficiency a little.

Yes, they're both talking about the same hood. Upon further investigation, I don't think that hood would be very effective for a v-mount. You want the hood vent to be in the path of the airflow coming out of your intercooler. The vent on the hood pictured above it too far back (over the engine). Ideally, you'd want the vent to be more forward (towards the front of the car) so that the air passing through the intercooler has a place to escape.

The vent doesn't have to be directly above the IC core to make it work. With vents like those in the hood will creat the low pressure area underneath the hood. Thus pulling air through the IC and out of the vents.

And whoever mentioned the fitment was completely correct. That knock off hood fits terribly. It's worth the extra money to buy the real Knightsports hood from www.rotaryextreme.com Just my .02 though.

FMIC benefit.
-You can put a hige one in and it is commonly for sale. Great place for air passage.
Downfall.
-Blocks the VITAL things like oil cooler and radiator. A guy here installed a FMIC on a stock turbo and blew the engine due to high oil temps.
-Also it is right in way of all those happy little rocks so it will get hammered.
-Lag generally increase due to long piping lengths.

TMIC Benefit:
It's a VERY short piping path so lag is very minimal
Downfall:
-HEATSOAK. Right on top of the engine so heat transfers readily

VMOUNT:
Benefit.
-Mix between TMIC and FMIC
-Shorter piping length means less lag
-Doesn't block radiator/oil cooler
-Protected from rocks
Downfall:
-It's ALL custom work
-Modding braces and structure and room are problems

If I had the $$$ I would go Vmount in a heartbeat over FMIC.

Also that hood 'Could' work for the Vmount but it will hinder the abilities.

I doubt it is close to where the Vmount woudl be placed so air after going through the Vmount woudl get tossed around before leaving.

Also.
It will just pull ari from the engine bay.
If it was made FOR the Vmount it woudl be much more efficient in pulling air out.

If I went Vmount I would just get a NA hood and hack it like one of the guys here did.

I think a small ramp/lip is needed to help make a vacuum zone at the exit point. Not sure though.
