Does anyone have pics of a vmount setup on a fc?

I did search but didn't find what i was looking for.

Interested in this, wondering if anyone have any pics of a Custom Vmount setup on a fc. The more pics the better, especially interested in the ducting, and mounting point.

Yep, he did a good job, very good work from the looks of it.

Mindspin311 06-06-05 10:39 PM

would anyone mind explaining the use of a V mount?

ddub 06-06-05 10:40 PM

Well, for one you dont have a big intercooler blocking flow to the radiator/oil cooler, but other than that I'm not sure.

gergrx7 06-06-05 10:40 PM

less lag vs FMIC

and better water temps.

Mindspin311 06-06-05 10:42 PM

So the radiator stays where it is and the IC is above it?

-TAL- 06-06-05 10:45 PM

yes. The radiator is tilted back, and a duct is created to force the air to the rad / ic, usually with a vent in the hood above the ic to let the air flow up and out.

vipers 06-06-05 10:53 PM

damn...that is a nice setup.....really makes me wonder if i should get a front mount or custom do a v-mount setup

staticguitar313 06-07-05 12:50 AM

is v-mount worth it for a DD? if its done right i'd think itd be superior right? post more pics, i must do this, what about the fan shroud?

DriftingB26RX7 06-07-05 01:18 AM

would this be posiable to do a vmount with a starion i/c

staticguitar313 06-08-05 03:28 AM

post more pics dammit

how do u have to cut away from the original engine bay..

looks like ur burning ur bridges too.. once u go Vmount u can't really go back cuz u've hacked up everything...

at least with a Vmount u can go *somewhat* back to stock.. except for the holes u've cut to pass the pipes through...

Bukwild 06-08-05 07:10 AM

yes a vmount is a great setup for a daily driver. If you have a fmic you already know how hot the car gets under normal driving with the rad and oil cooler blocked.

And leave the starion intercoolers in the junk yard/ebay where they belong. Stock t2 flows better than a starion.

Does anyone know where I can find an intercooler with the inlet/outlet on the top portion of the endtanks instead of on the sides? Kinda like this, although it looks like BlueTII's endtanks were custom fabbed:

I like the idea of more or less straight inlet/outlet intercooler piping for simplicity's sake. ;)

Buy just the core appropriate to your setup. You'll have to fab the endtanks to suit.

gerbraldy 06-08-05 11:02 AM

^I don't know if mounting an intercooler to a v setup would be easier than running/cutting pipe :D, thats just IMO. But the advantages of not blocking your rad with a nice big ic is also there. I'm sure a sweet fiberglass RE vented hood would go nice with blueTII's setup.

BoostedRex 06-08-05 01:16 PM

V-mounts are great for several reasons.
1. Less lag due to shorter piping
2. Less pressure drop due to fewer bends in the piping
3. Better cooling capability because your IC and rad will both be getting fresh air
4. Your IC isn't sitting in the very front of your car so you won't mess up your fins as easily from flying rocks and such

Now the thing with a vented hood is this. Hopefully I can remember all the details right. The theory is sound, but my wording might be off a bit. If I'm wrong then someone please correct me. With a vented hood, you create a low pressure area behind the IC core. Due to that low pressure area, air is drawn through the IC more than it would be with a normal hood. That will also help with cooling the intake charge.

Thats exactly what I'll probably wind up doing, but I figured with the popularity of of v-mounts these days someone would cash in by making some intercoolers with top inlet/outlet endtanks. Hell, maybe I'll start making them...just have to work on my welding skills. :D

Bukwild 06-08-05 02:06 PM

The intercooler used is a NPR from a diesel truck. I would buy one from spearco. They make a almost exact copy of this.

This is the intercooler I am talking about. its a spearco and you just have the ends cut and rewelded to do vertical not horizontal.

Bukwild, which size core is that in the picture? I'm looking at a Spearco core as well. But it's between the 23.5"X8"X3" or the 24"X10"X3".

24x10x3 is in the pic. I would bust out the measuring tape and make this intercooler out onto cardboard to make sure it stays off the pulleys before you buy one. Once I get my turbo kit worked out I will be doing this. I am tired of 200 degree temps on the highway with my stock s5 turbo. I have a feeling when i have my large snail strapped onner those temps will go up. to many projects so little time.

BoostedRex 06-08-05 02:47 PM

Tell me about it. I'm on hold from doing much of anything right now. My S4 TII motor is supposed to be sold this month. Then I leave on the 27th of June for a 4 month desert deployment. Then it's home to put in the 13B-RE and string in the Haltech. Plus I have to build the V-mount setup, get my new turbo, and replace all of the bushings.
