Question Does anyone have the MazdaTrix race engine?

I was looking over the "hush" section of the Mazdatrix site and noticed that they offer a preassembled and broken in PP 13B race engine (output is 310-315hp) for the FC. Does anyone run this setup, and if so what type of racing do you do? How do you like the motor?

You do realize that a PP motor is RACE ONLY - there's no way in hell you'd drive that thing on the street.

I guess you could use it as a road car... just set the idle to 6000 rpms...

Pineapple racing builds a PP that you can drive on the street. Here is a copy of part of an email I got from Rob (owner of pineapple racing) when I asked about different porting options.

On your 83, I have customers that daily drive p port
motors that get 16mpg/hwy. The ability to drive a
radically ported motor on the street is proper engine
assy. and tuning. I am not talking about strangling
the motor with restrictive int/exh. either. We run the
51 IDA w/ 46mm venturis. When you get closer email me
with your goals and budget and I can suggest the best
bang for you buck. Almost everyone I or my customers
talk to say you can not drive a perpherial port motor
on the street. I own a rotary p/u with one. I daily
drive this truck for over 1 1/2 years including towing
a sprint car to the races most friday's. If you are
ever on rx7forum.com and pp13bnos is on ask him, CJ is
one of our customers. Rob

Regardless, not a good bang for the buck idea. Probably won't have a very broad powerband, either.

well, it is a "race" engine, those aren't typically in day to day budgets. i know the formula atlantic mazdas run a 13B with a B-Port, not sure if they're pushing over 300, but i know those engines don't come cheap. the 4ag 1.6 litre is a $20,000 engine. rebuilds are about 4-8Gs each. they're "race" engines. they cost money. i'll try and find out the cost of those 13Bs to use as somewhat of a comparison.

Yes, I do know that these engines aren't "streetable" (although as I'm sure you know there are people who run with PP's on the street, although I doubt full on race engines), that's why I asked what class of racing you are in. I'm just curious to see what kinda feedback you guys can give me on the engine itself. It looks interesting (and I might be building another "hardcore" car in the near future) and I want to study what they did (I study too much ).

I don't think a ported but otherwise stock turbo motor producing the same horsepower could maintain the constant rpm like the race motor could. I may be wrong; but that is how I see the difference between 300hp "race" and 300hp "street"

except it is cheaper to drop in a street port TII engine w/ upgraded stock turbo in an NA for 300+HP, gobs of torque, nice and quiet, easy to drive and reliable.

Its a "race engine" because very few people want to put up w/ all that DRAMA for a measly 300hp if the race rules don't dictate it.

I think I would like the drama and challenge of PP on the street, but as a second car...(and a lighter chassis than 2nd gen)

I've had both NA and TII. TII is quiet!

A PP MUST have a very low restriction exhaust to attain anywhere near its HP potential. This is very LOUD!
