stock headlight bulbs are sealed of course...
there is a lot of companies that offer a H4 replacement housing...
from there, the sky is limit, as far as H4 bulbs or HID's...
i'm running Hella lenses with silver star bulbs, myself.

Generally it isn't recommended to install HID into housings that were not designed for them. Cheap lenses and bright lights don't mix well, you can easily create an unsafe situation for you and others. HID lights are meant to be used in conjunction with specific housings that reduce glare and provide a proper beam cutoff so you don't blind oncoming traffic.
So, to answer your question, yes, a "retrofit" would be the correct way to install HIDs in an FC. You should not attempt to modify the design of any headlight housing in an attempt to use HIDs.
Just get newer set of Hella housings and some regular bright H4 bulbs, much better visibility, legal and looks great.

WATCH OUT for high wattage H4's...
anything over 60 watts will more than likely melt your stock plugs...
i'm speaking from first hand experience...
i learned the hard way, back in the day...
