Do you know what I find funny?!
My friend has a 3.0 straight 6 Nissan engined car and before he had the car he was riding in mine.....
I tend to wait for the redline alarm before I change gears almost every time I drive my car and I guess he's gotten used to it.....I tried to convince him to buy a rotor and he still wouldn't listen and based his argument on "reliability"
Now when he drives his car he feels the need to redline it nearly every time. Like I said - he's used to watching my tacho not his.
I just think it will be funny when he blows the rings on his straight six - the "reliable" engine - and he won't know why......
IF IT AINT A ROTOR - IT AINT A MOTOR!

Nissan never had a 3.0 straight 6. The 3.0 was a V6. The straight 6's came in 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 sizes depending on the year. Actually the dedsignation 300, 280,260,240 tells you how big the engine is. So dont let him blow smoke up your a$$ about his displacment. And a 2.8 bored out to 3.0 is really a race motor that wouldnt be very streetable. One his compression would be higher cause cause thge pistons made for that over bore would also be high compression pistons. Two the space between the chamber adn the water jacket would be way too thin. And he would be cracking BLOCKS all the time, the rings would be his last worry. A oveerbore to 3.0 is just crazy. 2.9 is what racers do thiers to then trash the block when they need to over bore it from ring wear. Very few run a 3.0 unless thye are deesperate or cant afford another block at they time.
I have always been a fan of the Z car. Ive owned a 260 and a 280. And if I ever get another its getting a LS1 its lighter than the straight 6 and makes tons more power

Heh, both of my cousins do that in their automatics some how (they didn't learn that from me) and one already had to get rid of his Grandam because he blew the head gasket and the others ricey sebring is now leaking oil from street racing. Makes ya wonder sometimes, they put red lines there for a reason.

The Skyline should be a 3.0 L Straight 6, if it is the skyline motor I think it will hold. Remember it's not the US, they get the good stuff in Australia, Cosmo 3-rotor, they probably even got the later-model RX-7s (post 95).

Australia
They got the RX-7 until 1998 when Mazda announced that they would no longer sell the RX-7 in australia. I can't remember where I saw the press release, it was a while back. At least they got the Type RS. Not that many sold in Australia though.

hehe - it is the same as the R31 skyline GTS engine but it is in a the Holden VL Commodore ('87). Holden released their VL Commodore with Nissan engines and also released a VL Turbo -
Australian drag racing it is basically ruled by rotors and VL turbos.
We only got R31 and earlier Skylines delivered to Australia but we do get Low volume imports of every skyline released in Japan (except the N/As) - that includes the R34 GTR.
I think the available engines are : RB25DET, RB26DETT, RB30DETT
Don't quote me on that though - I don't really know all the skyline models.

there WAS an rb30 engine but it was the RB30E(T), a big SOHC hog that didnt really produce much power, and did come in the holden commodore in the mid-late 80's in australia. skyline engines would be the rb20de(t), rb25de(t), and rb26dett. there was never a 3.0 skyline. there was a stroker crank/pistons/rods/rings kit available from i believe HKS or trust that will displace 2.9, but it costs around $6000 US and is hard to source. 3.0 is theoretically possible but it wouldnt be a very good race engine. the reason the rb26dett is so powerful is because it strokes short and revs high, up into the 8000rpm for redline, and is capable of breaking 12k with a proper buildup. it may be possible to put an rb26dett head onto an rb30e(t) block, but i doubt it'd be very practical, if even possible
