Stock assembly can be removed without a compressor, just don't remove the bolt in the center of the top hat. The only time you'll need a compressor is when, or if you want to remove the top hat.
Are the coil overs fully assembled?

Jack the car up and unbolt the shock from the bottom. This will ensure that their is no pressure on the shock when you undo it and it will still be held in place by the top if their is pressure still on it.

The only time a compressor is needed is when you are trying to change/modify the springs that are currently on the shock.
