Do I Need To Run My SAFC If...

I'm running a stock set-up? Well not exactly stock...

Fresh JDM S5 rebuilt (monster street port) Turbo motor
stock 550 injectors
255 Walbro
RB FCD
3" turbo-back exhaust

Currently the car is running NA with almost no boost while breaking it in but I wanna start boosting and dont know if I need any sort of tuning for daily-driven purposes.

I wanna do 7 lbs on 91 octane but I'm afraid it might not be reliable unitl I tune it. I dont have a wideband eiother which is why the SAFC is not in. I also have an Apexi AVC-R that I wanna put in...

Any suggestions?

I have a S5 T2 ECU. Does this mean I'm ready for boost without leaning out or running too rich? TPS is fine also

Well, my car is boost spiking to 15 and is still alive *not for long I'm sure...* so I don't see why 7 lbs of boost would be unheard of for you to work with on what you have. You'll more than likely want to get that wideband installed so you can make sure you don't pop your engine, and you can tune more safe.

sorry, thought you were saying you had an NA ecu.

I ran my s4 with just a FCD at 10psi

mine ran fine and the AFRs were good too.

I bet you'll be fine but if it were me I would get a wide band to keep my eye on things, just in case.

Good luck having a max boost of 7 lbs with a 3" exhaust. Invest about $200 for 720 secondaries and an Rtek 1.7 if you're worried. Cheap motor insurance.

Yeah I thought the exhaust would add more boost. So an Rtek is different than the SAFC in what way? The only thing I could do for now is borrow a friend's wideband and tune mildly and not touch the SAFC. I wouldnt need 720s with this done correct?

this really would be the proper way to do this.

For controlling the boost I just used a crappy manual boost controller that came with the car. But then again my car is kinda weird as TongassT can testify to.

The Rtek is a chip for your ECU which allows you to change the fuel maps on the stock ECU without a piggy back fuel controller. It also gets rid of the fuel cut IIRC. You can get your Rtek installed with a data port to plug into a PDA so you can change your maps to your liking. I don't know if it's available for the S5 ECU though. A lot of folks run the Rtek, and there is even a subsection for it, so you can ask a few questions from the folks that are far more knowledgeable about it than I.

You'll have a hard time maintaining under 15 PSI with that setup.

Make sure you have something to accurately monitor AFRs.
