Do I need an O2 sensor?

I recently checked mine using the method layed out in the FSM, it reads the right voltages during acceleration and deceleration.

However I have also read posts that say they sould be replaced on a semi-regular basis (every 2 years?) to keep things running smoothly and the gas milage up.

If I do replace it should I stick with the OEM Mazda or can I go to the local auto parts supplier and use an after market one (and which are the brands to use and which one to stay away from)?

Thanks

The OEM one costs like $115. Get a Bosch universal one, $45. It fits.

You're right. If the sensor reads fine, then there is no reason to change it. You runnin rich? Smell gas? Crappy gas mileage? If yes, then you need to change it, if not, no worries?

Poor gas milage, runing rich, I think...

That's why I'm looking at it! Today I'm going to adjust the TPS if it needs it, also need to adjust the idle speed (sittin' at 1600RPM) after cleaning inside the TB with spray cleaner.

If the voltages are OK then should I still change it? Anybody heard of Neihoff as a brand for O2 sensors?
