Best muffler for custom single?

I need opinions on the best muffler for a custom single using a racing beat header and presilencer. I like the stock sleeper look; so no huge 4 inch tips. Do any companies make a straight through muffler with a 2.5-3 inch tip? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking about using one Racing Beat turbo muffler; any comments on that?

Thanks!

Dynomax Ultraflo in stainless steel might work. Not sure about the material they use inside it but some EProd racers use them. I also thought about using one of the Racing Beat mufflers but they are expensive. For a stock port engine with basic intake mods they should flow adequate.

"Best" means a lot of things to different people.&nbsp I run a Walker Dynomax UltraFLO single 3" in/out in a round 6" case.&nbsp This would be too loud for most people, but it is one of the highest flowing muffler out there.

Corksport has a 2.5 IN, 3 OUT muffler that I had intended to use with the same setup. Seeing as the RB PS is 2.5, just go to a shop and have a 2.5 inch SS pipe mandrel bent to the corksport. It's high-flowing, sounds decent ( Look for the other post ) and BEST of all, is only $89!

If you get this setup up and together, BE SURE TO GET SOME SOUND CLIPS, so I know what to expect with my RB Header / Presilencer combo!

Edit: Here's a pic of the thing, thought it might help.

I'm trying to stay with as close to stock look as I can, but still have good flow. The noise should not be "REAL" loud, but right now I have the Rotary Performance 50mm cat back and it is about the loud range I am looking for; nothing is going to be quiet with the RB header combo. I really just want a staight through stock looking muffler that won't burn out for at least 15,000 miles. I don't mind buying a new muffler every other year. My main concern is not having that huge tip; I know most people like that look but not me. I checked out Dynomax's website and they seem to have a few nice mufflers but none of them are stainless steeel packed, and I thought rotaries had to have SS packing? Thanks for the input guys; I know this has been discussed many times, but I'm having trouble with finding the low-key look.

That's a lil to "flashy" for me, but thanks alot anyways. The dynomax's look like they could be what I'm looking for. Do they have different sized inlets and outlets to fit my application? I need a 2.5 inch inlet and outlet. And which one should I get? The race one is probably too loud; and the turbo one has that damn "S" turn in it. So it's either the ultraflow stailess steel or the ultra flow welded; I'm guessing the SS one. How much do they cost?

Samps - If you go with the single Racing Beat turbo muffler, we(or atleast I) would like to hear it if possible. That muffler is about the same size as a factory muffler. It might have the required amount of muffling you need. My setup on my FP car is going to be as quit as I can get it and still be free flowing but with headers and no pre-silencer it will still be loud.

I think the SS ultraflow is about $200(local muffler shop price). Probably less if you can find it online.

I've thought about running the header and no presilencer but thought it would be just too loud on the street. The reason I am considering the RB turbo muffler is because one of my freinds had a Turbo 2 and he squished it in between two cars but the passenger side muffler was not damaged (it was about the only thing that made it). So, I can probably buy it off of him for like $100. The only problem is that the inlet on the RB muffler is only 2 inches I believe and the outlet on the header or presilencer is 2.5 inches. I am also having a freind of mine do the custom pipe but I have no idea how to make it go from 2.5 to 2 inches. I need to do this with in the next week and a half because the guy I sold my current cat-back to, wants it next weekend.

How do you make a 2.5 inch pipe end in a 2 inch flange? The RB muffler last time I checked has a 2 inch inlet pipe. The Y-pipe is 2.5 but splits into two 2 inch pipes running into the mufflers. I may be wrong; actually I hope I'm wrong.

it depends if you are on a budget...

personally i think the a'pexi n1 single is the best, but is also more expensive than others.

i have custom 2.5 " pipe that flows back to a single muffler. i went with a dynomax performance straight through muffler. is is 2.5 in and 2.5 out, and then i had a chrome tip welded onto the end of that which is 2.5 in 3" out.

with my exhaust system setup it is WAY too loud for streets. the pipe only has one bend but other than that it is basically a straight pipe with the racing beat header and presilencer. (no cats)

the power gain was EXCELLENT though.

So you have the set-up I was thinking about:

RB header
RB presilencer
Dynomax 2.5 in and 2.5 out

And you say it is too loud for the street. Is it louder than the N1? Which Dynomax muffler did you use? Your info could solve this.

Samps - Your friends wrecked car may have the older racing beat pieces on it. The brand new stuff they are selling is redesinged somewhat from the early stuff. I'm even thinking the early stuff wasn't straight thru on the muffler while the newer stuff is. Might want to verify that before you buy it otherwise it sounds like a good deal for $100. I could be wrong as happens often.

RX-7 Rage - I already have the RP cat-back; that is what I am selling. Thanks for trying.

F-Prep - He does have the older style. Do you think the chambered design would flow enough.

here is a picture of the dynomax performance muffler i have. i ordered it out of a keystone catalog for only $35 and then got a pilot motorsports tip welded on the end.

i am very happy with my exhaust setup but i still sometimes regret having it so loud. i did get pulled over but that might be because it was on a saturday night and i was on the cruising road with all the loud ricers.

like i said the power gains with this exhaust system is awesome, but just beware it is EXTREMELY loud and makes you nervous to stomp on it in the city sometimes.

No according to John Langer at Racing Beat. I called him and talked about 20 minutes one day about my options if I don't go full custom. He didn't recommend the single old style muffler. As a pair they flow enough but not buy themselves.
