Do FC's forget how to start?
Actually any RX7 really. I've owned two RX7's long enough to see this problem. One was a '81 and the other a '89. Both cars sat at least a couple years and fired right up. I understand RX7's hate cold weather and my '81 wouldn't start at all in the winter or after sitting. So my '89 had been sitting for a week and was out of gas completely. I put gas in and it took about 2 hours to get the car started. Now normally it fires right up no matter what the temps as long as it had been running the day before. So the qustion is why did my car suddenly become funny about starting? All my sensors work great. I have perfect compression and it idles great. I've only had this problem twice recently. And i've got straight water in it right now because its leaking and I don't want to waste antifreeze (problem being fixed tomorrow). So could the lack of anti freeze or the running out of gas completely have anything to do with this?

sometimes air pockets in the fuel system can be a pita to clear out and can cause hard starting problems but not usually on a return style system as the rotaries have, i couldn't even take a guess as to why it would be hard to start aside from just being cold blooded and needing to be primed.

I work with tow tractors, mobile generators, and other GSE to support the helicopter i work on. On occasion, we run out of fuel, or for some other unknown reason, they will get air in the lines... Even the helicopter's APP.. So... the only thing you can do is prime the lines, or bleed them out.. Happens almost several times a week. Then again, they aren't FCs.

That's what the "fuel pump jumper" is for. It's a yellow connector somewhere on the passenger's side front of the engine bay, IIRC.
Turn the ignition on. Jump the yellow connector. Let the fuel pump run until you hear the air bleed out of the lines (you can hear the difference) and then some. Remove jumper, start car.

I know the Rx7s have a problem starting, but I've also had an engine fire up after it sat a year in the junk yard (only on one rotor though) so I'm not certain why it has problems. My car has problems with Hot Starts now...
