its realy not bad without the power steering. especialy if the car came from the factory that way (manual rack). many people (myself included) prefer manual steering since it communicates more of the road, makes you feel more connected to whats going on.

its only an issue in a parking-lot trying to do tight manuevers, but its not bad as long as you arent a complete lightwieght on upper body strength.

dont be affraid if an fc you are looking at doesnt have power steering.

I had a manual rack in my old TII. Its not bad at all. Just get the car going above 5mph and you're fine. Very tight parallel parking on steep hills can be a bit of a pain in the *** though.

I really prefer the manual rack in my TII to the power racks I have felt in both S4 and S5 FC's. It's not difficult to turn the wheels and the greater response and feedback is amazing.

Have p/s on my 88 vert- liked the feel better when the belt broke, just a bitch to turn at slow speeds, like in a parking lot.

I pulled my power steering and replaced my rack with a manual one. My power steering pump was leaking and I really think the power steering is too light. New tires (more tread) in the front helps to as it does border on too heavy. Sure beats the recircurlating (sp?) ball on the first gens either way.

I have never seen a factory FC without PS. I WANT to get a manual rack.

Less space taken, less weight, easier for FMIC setups.

86-87 bases didn't come with power steering and on 87-88 Turbos it was an option.

All other FCs came standard with it in the USA

I think driving without power steering is a total b***h. It takes practically all my strength just to park into a spot. It's probably cuz I'm a 5'2", 95ish lb girl. =T

And yes, my fc has power steering...

lol. I don't know why all of you have so many problems. I don't have power steering in my 87 TII (came that way wasn't a convert) and I only have problems with it when I'm at a DEAD STOP. If I go like 1mph then I'm fine. When I first got in the car I couldn't do it, now it's not a problem for me at all. In fact I like no power steering because when I got into my dad's truck for a quick ride to the store I pulled out of the driveway and turned the wheel and it was just WAY too easy. But to each his own, there is absolutly nothing wrong with power steering in anyway (except for all that crap about space/weight/repairs). Unless your going realy fast all the time like 100+ power steering is fine.

remember the non power racks were 20:1 ratio, while all the vehicle speed sensing power steering racks were 15:1 ratio.

So the non power factory rack is much much easier than the turn than a malfunctioning vehicle speed sensing power rack.
