Do any of your cars rev to 3K when you start it up?

I have a 88 N/A straight Y-pipe; my car happens to idle at 3k everytime i start it up for the first time i start it up in a day, and when it starts a gang of smoke comes out the exhaust but the smoke is white so that is a good thing...i was wondering if this is common

The 3k start-up is normal

white smoke usually indicates a coolant seal failure

The 3k startup is normal, like Jstewart said

However, my engine was recently rebuilt, and my car produces white smoke. I'm about 99.7% sure my coolant seals are good.
Then again, that might only be in cold weather. I should really check that.

tap the gas when it starts to shoot up and it'll calm down right away. works every time like a charm.

You need to make sure the white smoke is not just steam from condinsation. People get confusd about this all the time and its surprising.

You can disable the s3 startup by disconnecting the electrical connector from the AWS solenoid on the drivers side of the intake manifold. Its a simple 2 way valve.

Or just start it in gear...that bypasses the AWS as well.

More specifically, the air bypass solenoid valve is just to the right of the oil filler neck, has two hoses running to it, and is on a bracket with two screws mounted to the throttle body. If you've had to take the upper intake manifold off in the past, you've had to remove these two screws to get to one of the screws behind the valve.

The general consensus is that the valve is there to improve warm up of the pre-cats, although I haven't read this anywhere (yet - source please?).

Cheers,
