Yeah I have the same problem. It's all in the weight distribution.

I actually have never lost grip in my front end. But my back end swings around more than a hyperactive dog tail wags.

But I have shitty tires, a lead foot, and the love of scaring everyone shitless at red lights. Nothing's better than intentionally breaking the back tires loose in front of a captive audience.

I run Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions.
I have NO problems in the rain with the car pushing or kicking the rear out.
I don't drive like an idiot either.

My first RX-7 ('91 N/A) met an untimely death in the rain. Highway straight, 60MPH, the front end hydroplaned, spun me around twice and wrecked in the ditch destroying most of the suspension in the process. So my answer to your question would be yes, 7's seem to be prone to lose front traction in wet conditions.....just a personal experience

My guess is, provided the suspension is in good shape with no bad shocks/struts, it's bad tires or the wrong tires.

I had some BF Goodrich tires for awhile and they really sucked. I now have some Kumho Ecsta ASX's. A world of difference. There is nothing that changes the handling characteristics of a car as fast or as much as tires. You don't have to spend a fortune, either. I find myself happier with a tire that sacrifices some ultimate dry grip for better wet handling.
Having said that, there is almost no tire in the world that will save you at the beginning of a rain. Especially if it has not rained in a while. The oils and such come up quickly, so give it a little time to wash that away. Ever notice how you seem to have better traction after it has rained for awhile?

A. Tires Some tires just suck in the rain, even new.

B. Accelerating through a turn = understeer.
