So this is probably a silly question but i rebuilt my 87 Turbo 2 and during that process had to take a long pause (like a month or so) and i can't remember if i had to remove the retaining clip on the clutch release bearing.

I'm pretty organised (i'm a bit OCD, labeled everything, took pics and grouped stuff into sandwich bags) but can't find a throw out bearing retaining clip (if it exists, it's the only thing I've lost in this rebuild, not a single bolt otherwise)

When i re-installed the clutch (an ATC, previous owner installed it) i noticed there wasn't a retaining ring for it to lock into, but didn't really think too much of it.

Now that everything is back together the clutch pedal wont return and it feels like there's no pressure on the clutch fork.

The other two clutch job's i've done the pressure plates had retaining rings.
I'm asking because i've tried to look it up but there isn't any consistent info. The FSM doesn't show the retaining ring in the pressure plate(why would it? lol) the clutches for sale from mazdatrix don't show the retaining clip on FC's but it does on FD's. It's late, so i'll probably call mazdatrix or racing beat tomorrow.

Uggh, i'm gonna have to pull the transmission, aren't i?

Might just spring for that and hope it fits out pressure paltes

Fc's don't use them; standard push type clutch.
FD's are pull type.

Try putting the car in gear and pushing it; if the car won't move (due to engine compression), it tells us the clutch isn't disengaging and points you towards failing hydraulics.... Or a bent clutch fork.

You need to bleed the clutch.
If the pedal is on the floor and won't come up then the hydraulics have air and need to be bled to get the air out.
Sometimes the system can be finicky,so it may take a couple good tries to get it correct.
Case and point,I did one and went for a nice drive.
Booom.,.,clutch pedal hit the floor,didn't come back up.
I had to Re-bleed the system as there was air trapped in it.

Well that's a relief, sort of. I dunno how old the clutch hydraulic parts are so I may just replace them all.

I have the worst luck with hydraulic clutches, I just finished changing both cylinders on my e30 and that car is a pain in the *** to do. And before that my suby's clutch hose popped leaving me stranded 2hrs from home.

The fluid looks old so I'm just gonna pony up and do the whole system. Might as well whiles it's out of commission anyways.
