Sorry - Server issues killed off the actual post. Let me try this again.

Ok - enough with the acronyms. I'm thinking of taking a starion FMIC from a turbo project that just didn't happen and putting it on my 87 Turbo II. I figured that pretty much anything would be an upgrade to the top mounted stock intercooler - and it can handle 15 psi I'm told. It's also free - the best of all qualities. So I figure with a starion FMIC and some custom piping, I could make a small performance boost. Am I delusional or is there a better way of going about this?

The starion FMIC is a POS, I woudn't touch it or even spend the time to make it work if it was free. Lots of people will say different however.

the starion i/c really is a piece of ****.
go with a volvo intercooler or if you want to spend a little more, an NPR intercooler.

but the starion intercooler is really bad flowing and it doesn't cool as well, either.

hell, you could ghettocool (two stockers welded together and used as a front mount) your car and it'd be better than the starion, imhmfo

I went double ghetto and welded three stock FC intercoolers together. About 1 1/4 pound pressure drop. 0-120 blast with T04 H trim and stopped on the side of the free way to see how hot it got. By the second core there was no heat at all. I think two cores work better than most people would dare rig.

P.S. a lot of OEM intercoolers have no internal fins or very low density. Stock FC ones are the best I have seen with straight but dense fins inside.

The stock intercooling system is incredible. Air goes over the hood into a small slot, where it then travels at a sharp angle downward into the little thing, slaps against the plate bolted to the back of the intercooler, and then seeps out of the slot formed at the back of the plate. Amazing that it works. The T2 intercooler must be VERY efficient.

The Starion is a POS. Don't even touch it with a stick.

Ok - since the starion is now out of the question (Hey, it was going to make our little Suzuki I-Mark dominate.) what is the largest intercooler that I can fit in a turbo II front bumper?

I have a volvo one painted black and I didn't think it would ever fit. I just sized it by looking at it next to the bumper but then said no way. You have some pics of it bonzai?

As cheesy as it sounds, my friend got a generic 24x12x3 intercooler off of ebay and said it actually didn't suck as bad as he though. It was better than bad, it was good. With endtanks it's 27.5" so it might be a touch big, but it's supposed to be a spearco core with generic tanks welded on. That's just as expensive as pulling some volvo intercooler around here (both are roughly $200).
