Ditching the blitz, what bov

i'm tired of dealing with crappy idle quality and boost leaks from my blitz blow off valve.

what valve are you guys running?

What blitz were you using? I have the ss but I've never had the car running so I don't know if its going to cause any issues.

Why not get a re-circulation adapter for the blitz so it doesn't cause you idle problems?

its the old ss version, it leaks around the top of the piston and leaks at 5psi plus

Let Me Google That For You
Any blitz distributor will sell them.
Or you can get lucky and find it on ebay.

Also, if you're a noob to turbos, don't comment about fuel system setups when people ask about intakes. We have enough misinformation on this thread.

Basically the "venturi funnel" on the "release type" blitz valves screws off and you can put an adapter on it that has a hose end, you plumb it back into the intake after the maf, so no metered air is lost.

OP:
Have you contacted Blitz to see if they could repair/rebuild it? Buying anything but a new bov seems to be a crapshoot these days.

Just because I don't know anything about a blow off valve doesn't mean I know nothing about the proper setup for a certain amount of.power/boost, these are two completely unrelated topics.

You repeated exactly what I said then but also said a fmic or vmount is overkill..

I advise anyone to upgrade their intercooler if they want reliable performance, you can throw all the fuel you want into the engine but its not going to do squat if you're running more boost than the stock intercooler can handle effectively.

Edit - I do know having the bov recirculate basically kills all the fun out of having a bov, since it reduces that psssh sound to close to nothing

I have a HKS ssqv (old one). Needs to be recirculated but no leaking.

Unconfirmed: w/o recirculation you get a dump of fuel during shifts and heavy on/off throttle inputs as the metered air 'blows' off the afm gets sucked open, which can cause minor stalling and hiccuping. I have RTEK logs to show this spike in AFR and Inj. Duty Cycle, but have not confirmed it is the open air BOV.

Go no BOV

So the entire problem is due to the afm according to your theory, interesting.

I don't think I'd run without a bov, don't like the idea of it.

the only BOV that has given me the least amount of trouble on a maf system is the HKS SSQ when not recirc, I currently have the older version of the Blitz with the large horn but haven't used it yet, if it does no work out ill end up getting a HKS.

I would have picked up a HKS but with so many knock off's that are close clones I was overwhelmed trying to make sure I wouldn't get knock off.

That's the super sound iirc, same one I have, I got it with my car so its basically a freebie. Car didn't have the stock bov anywhere.

Master contributor ARGHX has an excellent thread reguarding the BOV. Depending on the setup (e.g., having a stand alone ECU that's not AFM/MAF based) from a turbo durability standpoint. He argues BOV are not needed. But if you want it for the sound, guess that would be of no interest.

I use the factory BOV that discharges to atmosphere on my AFM equiped S4 TII w/a FMIC. However, on the BOV's discharge I placed a one way check valve to prevent the engine from taking in unmetered air during high engine vacuum. I've run this setup for many miles/years with absolutely no perfromance issues.
There is no smoke out of my exhaust when suddenly letting off the throttle while accelaring hard which argues against very rich mixtures occuring.

I have never ever had a problem with the Blitz the 10+ yrs I've had it.
People who complain about it have never cleaned it.
I like the sound better than the HKS.
The only thing that nees to be done is once in awhile pull out the piston, clean it and polish the brass piston. If you have oil leak, it can get gunked up and stick. Easy 10 minute job.

On the standard spring, you cannot run more than 18 psi. You'll need to change to a harder spring.

Guess I'll be taking mine apart and cleaning it up. He has a very weird flange hooked to it, it just connects to the flange and has a straight connector going straight down off the flange ( it doesn't have two sides, its only one way).

I'll figure it out when I get it all together, I'll buy a new flange if I can , I will probably end up buying new silicone hoses for the cold side of the turbo as well.

No idea what that looks like . Pic?
Don't use any kind of oil in there. Polish it up and
put it back making sure you don't scour the housing and remember how the disc goes in .
It should move smoothly . Use the butt end of a screw driver to push it (stiff).

btw, I loved when I had a vent to atmosphere bov on the stock MAF, my car would shoot giant flames every time the blow off valve went off

Flames are great but not in the cops eyes, did you ever get pulled over? That's my main concern when it comes to the flames.

i dont care about the recirculation of my bov (hehehe fire!) I just care about the boost leaks and idle quality.

See image linked above for huge spike in DC and Airflow reading which I'm guessing gives you 'hehehe fire!', but can also cause hesitation from the overly rich condition.

This might not be such an issue for people running stock or low boost on a stock turbo setup.

SSQV is adjustable and doesn't leak at Idle. Heard good things about Synapse also...
