Disgusting gas mileage on my new FC

Hi guys, i think this is my first post on the forum. I just bought an 87 Rx7. Im getting about 200 miles or less to a tank (i think its 55 liters) which is costing me about 41 bux to fill up. When i bought the car i thought it would be great on gas considering its a 1.3 liter. What could be the problem? it sometimes floods(i take out the egi fuse....) Would a fuel controller solve the problem? any ideas? thanks guys

first step is to give it a full tune up. plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, oil, oil filter, etc.

you should be getting around 400km. which isn't too much more then what you are getting now.

to answer you question. no it's not good on gas since it's a 1.3L

Is your oxygen sensor connected? I would add that to scotts tune up recommendation.

Your flooding is an unrelated issue. The flooding occurs because of leaking injectors and low compression. Not trying to scare you with the last one. However, it is more likely the leaky injectors.

that can also happen if your engine isnt warmed up all the way.

for example my engine is brand new, with new injecture seals. if i turn the engine on then stall it (totally cold), and try to restart it, it will be flooded.

It is probably flooding either because of leaking injectors, or because you shut it off before it is warmed up. There is a glitch in the S4 ECU that causes the car to flood if it isn't warmed up. It is very very common for S4 rx-7's. your gas mileage should improve if you do the tuneup suggested.

Tune up Is key. While you are at It, change your 02 Sensor. I accidently hacked off my 02 Sensor wire last week and fixed It today. I was getting 220kms/per fillup. Cheap assurance that will boast your fuel economy considering you are not aware of It's last replacement.

Check here for procedures as to why flooding occurs and how to correct It. http://www.rx-7.com/tech/unflood-fc.html

Oh man, that's too funny not to laugh at.

www.oxygensensors.com

Much cheaper than most places around here. IIRC it was like 20 something off that site. Local shops wanted closer to 100.

1. it's not exactly 1.3 liters.
2. it needs piles of fuel to maintain an idle.
3. the lack of torque makes you hold the loud pedal down longer

Universal. I was missing the OEM connector anyways, the wire broke. I stripped the wire about 6 inchs into the main wiring bundle, and then spliced the o2 sensor in. The reason i trimmed the OEM wire back so far is cuz it was hard as a rock and the insulation kept breaking off.

The generic Bosch O2 sensor works in our cars. The part number is #12054. You can find it at any autoparts store for about $30 bucks.
