Disableing the AC
Greetings,
I am interested in removing the belt for the AC compressor. I dont' really want to remove the entire system yet. I have a Vert and the AC almost worthless. The only time it is useful is when the windows fog up. I did a search, but I couldn't find anything relevant to just cutting the belt, and leaving the system intact.
My question is, can I just cut the belt that turns the compressor's pulley? Do I need to unplug any wires? Finally I want to know if this is a good idea? I want to test the idea of having no AC in relation to the fogging of my windows. Then if I can live with out it, using a rag to wipe them down or something, I will remove the entire system. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

So it's that easy? How would I be able to reinstall a belt if need be? Where is the tension pully?
As for the fogging issue, is there a better (lighter, lower power consumption) way to defog the windshield? Other then a rag that is.

why would you cut the belt? (not to sound like a dick) in order to remove the a/c belt you have to take all the belts off. all you have to do is loosen all the belt tensioners and remove the belts, take off the a/c belt and put the rest of the belts back on and tighten them and be done. there isnt much sence to cutting the a/c belt off cause if you wanna put the belt back on then you would have to go out and buy a new obelt

For god sakes do not cut the belt, its a nasty fix if you dont know howto do it because they have to replace ALL the belts including that one. Just leave it be, its not giving u any problems untill you actually turn it on and the AC Clutch is engauged.

Intresting. Thanks for all these great replies. Seeing as how winter is approching and Maryland is very wet this time of year, I will be leaving the AC intact. Thanks again for all the input.
