Dimming switch DIMS TAIL LIGHTS wtf??

Well my lights on my dash gauges just went out one day, and I thought it was the switch, (the headlight switch). So I bought a used switch that the seller said was good. I just put it on, still no dash light, so I rotated the dimming ****, and the tail lights started dimming, and getting brighter, WTF? also the switch got hot, Im no electrician, but I think I have a short somewhere, is it the switch, or my car's wiring, because i worked fine before. Any help greatly appreciated. thx

if its getting hot that means that there is resistance in the switch, ya could have a short that when you turn the dimmer that causeing enough of a draw that your able to dim the tail lights. Thats bad.

Well, definately sounds like short. Icemark could probably give a relatively definitive answer on at least where the short may be-- in the switch or body wiring... Plus he rebuilds them, if you end up getting another switch I def rec. getting ahold of him.

The switch is internally damaged, or your wiring harness is damaged. Do not ever use a damaged or discolored harness with a working switch.

Do not continue to use that switch or you will have a fire

I hate to refute the master and all, but I've been running on the connectors in the pics for over a year.

Of course I did add a relay as depicted and I really think that makes all the difference.

Ahh he says the parking lights (exterior) are dimming with the interior **** ... how are you refuting my call???

Perhaps you did not understand my reply when I said:

as you did post a picture of a damaged switch (which if you did open, you would see internally damaged) and a damaged harness…

You know what, I just started blowing at the switch, and connections like 10 mins ago, installed the switch, and the problem magically fixed itself, its not getting hot anymore, not dimming tail lights, and as a bonus all the little orange lights in the switches themselves shine bright. I didnt know this switch controlled all the little orange lights in the switches?
