Differential question
I have a '91 GXL that has a welded diff and was wondering if any diff's from previous models would fit without any modifications. Thanks!

I believe any n/a diff will fit though I think one of the sub shafts on the Viscous LSD in the 89-92 car is shorter. I wouldn't look for one of those anyway. I would try to find a Torsen LSD from a Miata or get a clutch type LSD from an 86-88 n/a car. Turbo's used a different dia. ring gear and their diffs won't swap into a n/a and vice versa.

a GXL or a Vert should have the N/A LSD.
Now the FD Torsen will fit the TII diff casing but of you are going that far why not just use the TII LSD( that is the normal type of Diff that TII's came with).
Of course if you use the TII LSD then you need the Half shafts too as they won't accept the N/A half shafts.
The TII halfshafts will just slid into place of the old N/A shafts.no modification needed on the Hub assembly or whatnot.
YOu would also need to connect the Diff to the trans somehow as the bolt pattern on the diff is not the same between TII and N/A.So if you ran a TII Diff and an N/A transmission you would either have to purchase a conversion driveshaft or "make one".
