different models for rx-7

hi

I'm planning on importing a jp rx7, but there are 4 models to choose from. I'm wondering if anyone would have an idea what's the difference are.

I've see GT-X, GT-R, GT, and GT LTD.

I know for sure the GT-X and GT-R are equivlent to Turbo II here in North America.

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/faq-fc-frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-a-181219/

look through there as a lot of your questions will be answered. dont be afraid to use the search button! people will be friendly if you at least search around for a minute before you ask questions.

Call me Dr. Frankenstien but just in case no one believes that I searched.. the second thread that "helps alot" doesn't exist..

And the only other seemingly good gt-r info thread evolved into automatic transmission bashing.

Everything else was also pooey..

Covered in poo..

Well that book is full of **** because Japan never received a non turbo'd FC. All FC's in Japan (including convertibles) came with turbo engines, as well as LSD. And FTR, the GT-R was the lowest model, followed by the GT-X (Which I used to own one of), the GT Limited, and Winning Limited (only the limited models came with sunroofs or leather, and leather was also standard on all convertibles as well). All of Japan's FC's were practically the same car, save for differences in trim packages (GT-R, GT-X, GT Limited etc.). The only one which was slightly different was the Infini version of the FC, which i don't really feel like going into detail listing the specifications, you can find them yourself using the search function

Not to the United States.. Legally that is. The only vehicle that is allowed to be imported into this country is the Skyline GTR and only certain years at that. The vehicle has to undergo US DOT saftey specs transormation and I believe that's in California...

EDIT*

If you are in the US :
This is information about importing the JDM car into the US.

As you may know, all the Japanese specifications vehicles (JDM car) are Right Hand Drive. Unfortunately, it is difficult to import JDM cars into the US at present except the 25 years or older model, race cars, show cars, and kit cars. It is because you have to obtain the approval from the DOT and the EPA in order to import the JDM car and it needs to legalize a car when it will reach to the US port.

Let me advise you that unless you wish to present crash test data for any Right Hand Drive car, it cannot legally be imported to the US. This is prohibitively expensive as a vehicle must be crashed to obtain the data, and we do not support the crash test data. Also the JDM car probably do not meet the US emission standard. And after 1996 models probably need to install the OBD2 system in order to pass the emission standard.

For your information, here is a link of the US importing information.
EPA : http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/quikover.htm
DOT : http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/
US customs : http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/import/

As of Oct 2003 the only RHD JDM allowed for import into US is 1990-1999 Skyline GTS GTR. The vehicle must go to US conversion company (est 8k-18k USD) to meet US DOT standards. And you have to give them a returnable "bond" of 150% of vehicle value until conversion is done. If you get caught with an illegal one on the roads it will be confiscated and destroyed at your cost.

NOTE : We J's Garage Export do not support any import procedure. The buyer is responsible for any necessary procedures, or any transfers, or any modifications for them to import the car.

I agree with Helmut. All Japanese and Aus FC's were turbocharged.

While everyone else is wearing nice modern helmets, YOU have the sheer ***** to wear something that makes you look like a 70's era stuntman...

Because you're not worried about a HANS device... Noo you're not worried about a face shield... What's a little extra protein anyways?

So this is to YOU Mr. sparkly blue helmut wearer guy... Because not everyone has the cajones to enter a motorspeedway wearing a bowling ball on their head...

^^^^HAHAHAHAHAHA I did the whole song while reading it out loud.....

unless you're in canada don't waste your time and money by importing a 7. I wouldn't even bother with a 7 if I lived in canada.........i'd buy a cosmo, a 323 GTX, all-trac 97 celica, an older an evo IV or V, an older STI 2 door...........

Cosmos are ok, however they only came in automatic, which is FTL. Familia(323) GT-X's are extremely hard to come by in Japan, especially ones that aren't molested like a ****. Good luck bringing in a vehicle newer than 15 years old into Canada and driving it legally, the limit here is 15 years.

FD's from Japan will be legal for import this October

Search the lounge for Motorex owner in jail or something like that. I pretty much wrote a book on importing a car in there.
