Difference in exhaust turbo vs n/a

Okay, I appologize for this really dumb question and it usually isn't how I have my first posts on forums. That being said.. I own a 1990 RX7 N/A and I was just wondering if I could put a "turbo" exhaust system onto an N/A. The only difference is that the "turbo" exhausts would be larger in diameter, and that is all, correct? Both the turbo and N/a setups for exhaust systems are completely the same? Do the pipes bend any differently compared to the N/A? I also own a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T and they are completely different from the non turbos, and I'm just hoping that it isn't the case with the Rx7's.

Story: I blew off both of my mufflers one day at the kart track and I'm looking for a replacement. Although I could get a 2.5 all the way through, I'm garaging my car as of tomorrow and hopefully find a TII donor car by the end of spring so I could swap in parts for a conversion.. and that's where the 3" or "turbo" exhaust system will come into play.

It should fit, but I'd just like to make sure so I don't end up spending $700 on something I can't use. For me, that's quit a bit of money, and I'm still hesitant on buying it, I'm sure most of you can understand. Thanks!

The Turbo and n/a exhaust run the same way and use the same hangers with the exception of the downpipe. A turbo exhaust is way to big for a n/a to make optimum power, but since you intend to do a turbo conversion have no fear and go ahead and get the turbo exhaust, it bolts right up except to the engine (but your getting a turbo engine/manifold/turbo I assume, so it will bolt right up).

Exception to the downpipe? The N/A downpipe won't work with an aftermarket turbo exhaust system (like maybe Apex'i)? So, if I tried to put on an aftermarket 3" exhaust system onto my N/A, it just won't work until I fully converted my N/A to the TII motor? Gah!

Your going to dish out nearly a thousand dollars for an Apexi exhaust?
meh, not my cup of tea.

Have custom system made with a nice RB catback....you can re-use it later and adapt it to your N/A for now by doing a custom setup from the cat forward.

No, a aftermarket turbo exhaust downpipe will not mate to a n/a exhaust manifold, but the rest of it bolts in (mid pipe/resonator, Y pipe, and rear mufflers). If you intend to use the car in n/a fasion whilest using a aftermarket turbo exhaust till you get your turbo engine transplanted, go to a muffler shop and get a n/a down pipe made for it to bolt to your aftermarket turbo exhaust system. Keep in mind a turbo 3" exhaust is going to hurt power and be loud when compaired to a n/a designed system. Also, if you plan to run anything other then a stock or hybrid turbo, you'll need to make a new downpipe for your turbo transplant as well if you go after market turbo (T4 sized).

I agree. Just buy a catback and it should bolt up with the NA setup. if it comes with a silencer keep that in while your still NA. Then when you put your TII motor in buy an aftermarket downpipe and it will bolt up.
