did some porting today:

i still have to do a little more smoothing, but the shape is done and the runners are pretty much done. i have yet to do the runners on the primaries cause i cant get the damn injector atomizer things out that sticks down in the middle of the runner!

i used a really sweet angled (kinda "pointed) carbide burr for the shape of the ports (kinda tricky cause it likes to grab cause its so agressive, gotta have it at the right angle when porting) with a 90* angle dye grinder. and a small sanding bit and a small wire bit for the dremel. you can get the burrs are harbor freight and the dremel stuff and walmart.

i'm gonna go over everything again (after i finish the primaries) and get another level of smoothness. i've got plenty of time before my mazda apex seals get here so we're doin it up nice i'll post the pics of the exhaust ports later.

unfortunately porting is a good way to get alot of power out of an engine and alot of engine builders/tuners know it. so its kinda hard to get some concrete knowledge and ideas and pictures to explain it because everybody has their own way of doing it. unfortunately the "way" everybody has is usually pretty private.

Man I agree, this is the best porting that I've seen in a while as well.

Curious though, with the larger intake parts where the LIM mates up with the irons, whats the point with that? I really doubt that you're going to port the LIM and UIM for the TII to match that port job, are you? Or are you just gonna use an FD LIM or something? As far as I remember, that was the only reason why the FD LIM would not fit was becuase the ports were too large.
anyone know anything more?

ehh, i'm not exactly done with em yet, but thanks!

also, FD LIM doesnt bolt up because the FD irons are different, the secondary port inlets are scooted over about a half inch and the LIM bolts up to the irons differently too.

hopefully i'll finish my primaries and post the pictures of them tomorrow. they're prettier

got the primaries done tonight, damn they are a royal pain in the ***. the runners are too long and narrow to use any dremel bits, so they arent as well done as the primaries are

i also did one of the exhaust ports tonight... and polished the entire exit, it looks awesome. i still have some cleaning up to do of the rotor side of the port, but it looks pretty good! i'll post up some pics tomorrow.

theres one of the primaries before i did the runners and smoothing...

Like it matters... cartmill blows up engines well before the time they'd actually wear out or kill themselves!

I don't see the bevel on the lower part of the exhaust port, you sure you didn't grind it away? Or just a bad angle?

hi there,
my name is achilles and I have an '88-7. The motor in it went out at 198k miles and I went to the junk-yard to get another one to drive in the main time until I can put some money together to but a new engine. I am done with the engine swap but for some reason the car would not stay running. It cranks and then dies after about 5-10 seconds of starting. I have tested for spark, fuel, compression, timing, and then some and still cannot find out what is wrong. can you please help me out with some suggestions?

8's,
achilles.
