Did i fry something electrical?

So I just got finished doing an engine/tranny swap on my 86 gxl

As i was putting in the battery, I mistakenly touched the POSITIVE wire to the negative terminal and vice versa.

The contact was only for a second, maybe two, then i realized why i was getting a little smoke from the terminal, and hooked in up properly. Keep in mind, the contact was very breif.

Now, when I turn the key in the ignition to turn the car on, It seems as though nothing happens. All of the interior/exterior lights work, But none of my gauges work, neither do the stereo or logicon. Its as though the ignition switch is fried.

When I check ed the fuses, none of them were blown, BUT there were some that were too HIGH of an amperage, ie: a 25 in place of a 15 etc....
I also checked the engine bay fuses, and theyre fine.

What could i be dealing with? do you guys think i damaged something serious....

Please help me, until i figure this out i have NO CAR!!!! and TWO jobs to get to and from, aaaaargh!!!

Maybe you killed the battery? At least enough not to start it. Turn the key to on and look at the volt meter and see if you have 12V, it could be the problem.

Or..take a volt meter and measure across the posts of the battery. Should be NO LESS than 12V...but should be higher with a good charge.

Probably a more reliable way to go than looking at the gauge.

I dont have a voltmeter YET, so i cant check the voltage.
But i really dont think its a battery issue, like i said, ALL the interior/exterior lights work.

What I'm curious about is why nothing happens when i turn the key to the "ON" or "ACC" positions. Could i have blown the ignition wiring somehow?

Any input, Icemark, ReTed, Aaron Cake?

Well, I found out the problem,

I am stupid

Aparently, there is a black plug that runs from the fuse box in the engine bay, to the car's wiring harness, and if its not plugged in, your ignition wil not work!!!!!
