Did all 91's come with 4 piston ventilated front brakes?
Just like the title implies, it *appears* so in the specs guide posted in the archives/sticky, but I could have swore that each model year had one base that had solid fronts and single-piston. I may pick up another RX-7, this one's an N/A that was converted to Turbo, and I'm always leery of those...

No not all 91's came with 4 piston. Of the three models made that year TurboII and Vert always came with the 4 piston setup. I have seen a few late production 91's that had them, not knowing the original owner I cant verify that they were factory, but otherwise being 100% stock cars I would assume mazda ended up using the leftovers for the final runs to possibly cut costs or just get rid of the stock.

Look at them.
Look at your rear brake rotors, if they are vented, then you should have 4 piston calipers up front.
If your rear brake rotor is not vented *it will be thin*, then you should also have single piston calipers up front.
This is what the 4 piston calipers look like.

In '91, there was no more "GXL" or "GTU" model designation. All the NAs were simply Coupes. I believe the brake setup was determined by option package. They were called A and B or something like that. One was essentially the equivalent of the '89-90 GTU base car and the other was more like the GXL. One difference is that all '91s had power windows. You hear rumors that Mazda did a lot of substitution on the assembly line in the final days of FC production so some odd mixes of features do reportedly exist.

Interesting. I did not know that. It is surprising how many differences there were between U.S. and Canadian spec cars, especially with the S5s.
I thought there were no U.S.-spec '92s; I thought all those '92 model year convertibles went to Japan and Europe. I don't believe I've ever seen one in person. Isn't it true that they had tan leather interiors?
