I am looking to get a 3.9 final drive differential, the automatics from 86-88 and 88 convertible were the only 2nd gen that came with it. Since I am looking for one with a LSD, I have to look for one from a 5 spd. So that leaves me with the choice of just the 88 convertible. Can someone tell me if the 88 5 spd convertible came with the LSD?

As found in the FAQ for FC at the top of the 2nd gen section...

No Convertible came with a LSD or VLSD.

And all automatics including 89-91 models (except convertibles) came with the 3.9 rear end. Of the convertibles, only the 88 convertible came with the 3.9 rear end.

If you want a LSD with a 3.9 rear end, you are looking for a 86-88 GXL with auto tranny.

If you want an open 3.9 rear end I also have one. PM or email me for it.

 

The 86-88 GXL auto came with 3.9? I thought they have 4.1 rear. I also didnt know they come with LSD

 

all 86-88 GXL models came with a LSD, regardless of tranny or rear end gearing.

And again, all the automatic tranmissions (except in verts) had the 3.9 rear end gear.

 

I know all GXLs had LSD, I just didnt know you could get the LSD with the automatic

Yeah, we just figured it out last year... it had been a mystery for a while

 

Yeah I was kinda happy to find out I did have an LSD in my back yard waiting for me.
