Did 1990s come with a rubber undercoating?

Do 1990 RX-7s come with an underbody rubber undercoating?

I am asking because I just picked up my new RX-7 and I'm now checking it all out. I got on the stand and noticed there is a coating over most of the body panels, frame rails, and part of the suspension.

It's not in very good shape, so I'm going to take it all off and coat it with POR-15.

Thanks.

Ahh, ok. What do you think is the best way to take it off?

I'm considering renting a pressure wash and taking that to it. I know of an outdoor lift I might have access to.

Well, with some research I basicly found that the best way is to remove it by hand. Celophane can be used to hold in a solvent to losen it up. Then use a puddy knife to take it off. A heat gun can be used too, but I guess it's pretty messy.

Back to the garage!
