detrimental cone filter?

being the poor dude that I am, I was thinking about buying a universal cone filter at autozone for like $20. however, a friend was telling me that it would cause me to loose power. I cant imagine it would be WORSE than stock....

anyone have any insight on this?

If you go to a cone filter, you need to make a cold air box so avoid sucking in hot engine air. If you bring in hot air, you will have a power LOSS.

The biggest problem with some of the cheaper Cone filters, is the size.

If you go with a Cone filter that is less than 3"x5" Dia, then the filter would be too small and will result in lost HP.

Also unless there is some way to keep the intake air cool (such as a cool air box), you will also loose HP when the engine is warm and you are not moving much over 45 MPH.

again headlight ducts only work with the headlights down and at more than 45 MPH
