Defi gauges

Hey I was wondering how good defi brand gauges are. They seem to be the only brand that makes a 52mm egt and boost gauge that reads psi in a white face. They also seem to be a bit cheaper than GReddy and APEX. Let me know what you think and if there are any places to get these same gauges made by APEX, GReddy, Blitz, or HKS.

Thats why I am asking. I think I found mine. Defi seems to be a respectable company and their gauges aren't too expensive either. Look at the store.

Click on gauges and pods. Then go to defi and then d-gauges I think. They are I think $110 for the Boost and $180 for the egt. Take a look and you can compare the GReddy.

i would go for $30 boost gauge from racimex rather than spending $100+ on boost gauge
www.racimex.de, i got references for their boost gauges, i just didn`t found EGT on their website and they don`t answer my english mails...

The nice thing about the Defi's is the link system makes it a breeze to install and wire everything up.

Are you adding the $150-$200 control box that it needs if you use ANY Defi gauges in your car?

Whoa whoa whoa. I need an extra control box for those gauges? I didn't see anything extra at rx7store.net and I even looked. Where would they sell that anyways? What about the GReddy ones?

The ones he's looking at are Defi's standalone gauges that don't need the control box, not the Link ones. Both types shown at www.rx7store.net.

Defi guages are the Bomb...I am really suprise more people don't use them. I would go with the link system without a doubt, anything less is a waste of time if ur gonna use more than one guage, which you should be.l

The control box normally comes with a guage when you buy it. you have to look at the box to see if it has the control unit, the ones without the unit are cheaper but even one with the box, at least here in Japan is not that much more expensive than other electronic guages.

Personally I think they are higher quality than other guages. I have bot Trust, HKS, Sard, Omori, Blitz and Defi surpases all of them. I have had 2 trust guages that were bad out of the box, HKS.....well don't like them too expensive and ugly. Sard, no real complaints yet but still not as accurate as Defi. Omori, these are the **** box guages of Japan only old men and broke asses use these. Blitz, well every boost guage from blitz I have ever had is innacurate verified by Power FC and ohter boost guages.

I really can't say enough about Defi link system. They are accurate as hell with the stepper motor and they do a self diagnostic. Easy as all get out to install, not lots of messy wires. I know the original poster is looking at the stand alones but I would say save up a little more money and get the link system just to make the rest of your life easier.

Does Defi make All like of gauges? Like fuel level and speedo?

I was looking at the Omori guages too but i heard they arent very good quality a couple times now.
The guy on the 1st gen forum (AJCxxx or something), the guy with the single turbo FB has Omori guages.

I don't think Defi makes a speedo, fuel level, or volt guage...

My take on this whole thread...

Omori gauges are not as good quality as GReddy, A'PEXi, HKS, period.

I wanted to go Defi also, but they were TOO expensive to switch over when the first appeared in the U.S. a few years ago.&nbsp I had already gone to a pair of 60mm GReddy P/H units for boost and EGT, and getting rid of $600 gauges and spend another $600 on a Defi set was just not part of the budget.&nbsp Since then, I've noticed that Defi gauges have been selling for dirt CHEAP in Japan - check out any Option mag and look in the back for advertisers.&nbsp Last time I checked, a set of 60mm EGT and boost + link box was under $400US.&nbsp The drop in price scares me - I'll just stick to my GReddy's. This is for the Defi LINK gauges, not the newer stand-alone gauges...

Defi guages are top notch. Good stuff.

I'm going with a set of Omori's for the WRX only because I can get an exact color match for the factory guage cluster. I haven't been able to find anything else that matches as well as they do.

So does anyone have any info on the newer stand-alone gauges by Defi? I was going to go with GReddy, but would like a psi boost gauge. Still may go with GReddy, not sure yet.

something to consider

hey chris:

what boost are you running?

if 15psi or less, I am not too sure if the defi gauge will be useful. here is why...(my opinion)

i too am looking for some boost gauge. my car is mildly mod, and I do not plan to run more than 12 psi. i have been looking for a good boost gauge, but most reads up to 30 psi. think about it - most of the time, the sweep from 0 to 10/15 is so small, it makes reading kinda meaningless. that is why i want a 0-15 full sweep - at least i can better tell what psi my car is running.

the only thing close to what I am looking for is the new autometer electric full sweep boost gauge. it is not available till may, so i am waiting. not cheap - ~ $180, but i like it because:
1) it is electric, full sweep, up to 15psi
2) it has peak hold and warning feature.

check it out on autometer site (new 2002 products). just my input.

unless you are running 20 psi or something like that (whoa!!!)

dewey

Well I don't like autometer products. I've heard all bad about them too many times. I might just go with the GReddy even though its not in PSI. I didn't see any 52mm oil pressure gauges by Defi. Guess its hard to find the perfect gauges.
