Is deeper better??

I heard that 3rd gen rotor bearings are good upgrades for 2nd gens when replacing rotor bearings because of the deeper oil grooves. Got the idea from K2RD.Com but when i asked MAZDATRIX they said that the bearing dont fit on the 2nd gen rotors. Is this true or they are just trying to sell me the expensive Mazda Factory Racing rotor bearings. I dont want to spend 90/ rotor bearing for the MFR ones..

As far as I know, the eccentric shaft is the same for all 86-96 13B's I think the FD used the same rotors as the 89-91 TII, but Im not completely sure. The things that I know were changed engine-wise for the FD were the end plates and rotor housings.

I think this should be looked into more. Im about to be building an all-out motor and was planning on using MFR rotor bearings, but I would love to save some cash.

Dont know much about a 13B, much less about a 93+ 13B, but I know one thing Mazdatrix will tell you when you dont need a part for a particular application. They told me I didnt need something, they are #1 in my book, so its doubtfull they'd try to get another 90/ea outta ya...

the rotors, rotor bearings, and eccentric shaft are different between the fc and fd. they changed some of the bearing clearances.

So this mod cannot be done to our FC?..I guess we are stuck with the stock bearings or the MFR ones..

you can run 3rd gen rotors in a 13bt, they are better, I think you can run the stationay gears. and you should run the corner/side seals.

talk to rob at http://www.pineappleracing.com/ I keep hearing more and more good things about him.

You need to use FD rotors to be able to use the FD rotor bearings. The FD and FC have the same eccentric shaft, but the rotors and bearings have different clearances.

hmmm so in this case K2RD is wrong about this modification. They say in their site that 3rd gen bearings are good upgrades for FC but i guess they are wrong. They didnt mention 3rd gen rotors has to be used.. oh well..im sticking with the factory 2nd gen ones. I cant buy those expensive RaceRotorBearings that cost 90 dollars a piece.

well if the ecentric shafts are different then why not change it out as well??? or is my logic totally flawed?

The eccentric shaft is the same between ALL 13B's from 86-95. That goes for the different models and everything. The 86 n/a ecc. shaft is the same as the 95 TT ecc. shaft. Im not sure about after 95 though.

I dont know for sure, but Im just going on what Ive heard. The clearances between the rotor and rotor bearing are not the same between FC and FD. This means you could not safely use an FD rotor bearing on an FC rotor. But I have not researched this myself, so I make no claims to the accuracy of this information. Again, this is only what Ive heard.
