Decisions... Decisions...

Here is my delimma.... How to proceede on my project...

I have finished cleaning all my engine parts for my rebuild and now I am at the point of measuring the clearances and wear on the internals. I have also compiled a list of internal parts that Im going to need and it comes to $700 using mazda apex seals and around $500 with the RA seals... these numbers are assuming that the rotors, housings, and irons are in useable shape. So If I continue on my rebuild I am not sure which apex seals to use... and whether or not I should replace my side seals. Then after the car is running it needs an exaust, paint, and body work... So I am probably looking at $2000-4000 to get this car in shape if I continue doing the work my self.

Then yesterday I was at my grandparents (which is also the family business, and where my car is)working and a local guy came to look at my grandfathers cars and saw my RX-7... turns out he has an 89 Rx-7 N/A, black, 5-speed just like my car that he is trying to sell because it is an impractical family car... This what I found out: The car runs, Needs tires(but I have a good set on my rx7), and a clutch, no rust, may need a paint job... He wants $1500 but I think I can get it for less, closer to $1000. I'm going to go look at this car tomorrow (maybe)... then a compresson check if I'm serious about it.

So theres my problem... What to do... I want to finish my rebuild, but it seems senseless to spend about $1000 to get my $400 rx-7 to run/pass inspection when I can get a running Rx-7 for that price plus the cost of a clutch... it seems like a good deal if the body is in better shape then my Rx-7.

What would you guys do?

Thanks,
Rob

I'm in the same boat. My 7's needs a new engine. I'm guessing that for the amount that it's going to cost to get it running again, new paint, and tranny swap I can get a rebuilt , 5 speed, with an alright paint job.

Focus....Danielson.....focus.

Finish what you started. The 'other' car will need a rebuild soon as well.

I found alittle more about the car today, but I didn't get to see it. It has low miles, something like 70,000miles on it. The guy who owns it seems pretty knowlegible about the car and rotaries. He started to do some body work on it so its black with grey primer spots(like mine will be once I start working on the body).

The plan as of now is to finish my rebuild... Since this car will probably be too expensive or not all its cracked up to be... or maybe I will just need 2 cars, one for the track and one for a summer ride.
