Question Decision Time: Fix the FC or buy a FD

What's up guys

I am having a dilemma. I have a 90 N/A GXL that I have had for over 5 years and have put much work into. Recently, the 'check engine' light has been going off and I have noticed a slight loss in power.

I'm guessing that my compression is lacking and that I am going to have to fork out like $2000 to get it fixed at my local rotary shop. But again, this estimate is based off an assumption. It could be somehting much worse.

My options are :
- fix the problems and remain with my car for however long it will last
OR
- sell it and buy a 3rd Gen from somewhere.

I was wondering if anyone had any input or suggesitons on my engine problem or any personal opinions on what to do in this tricky situation. I love my car and I am finding it hard to let go of it

Find out what's wrong before you decide to sell the car. It could be something incredibly simple.

The CEL could be seen as a result of a faulty sensor. That same faulty sensor could be affecting the driveability of the car.

With this car atleast you know what is good/bad. Buying a "new" used car is going to wipe that slate clean.

I simply guess FD will cost you more. But if you are tired of fixing your 2nd Gen and money is not your concern, I'd say go for a FD.

Thanks for the advice Zachspazz.......that could be very true. I hope it is something really simple.

Josepi:
ya know what, my engine temperature sensor has recently stopped working.........could that be the culprit of my engine problem

WHOA. Yea, that's going to cause the ECU to think that everything is cold resulting in a rich condition...

If memory still serves me...

I really haven't had any problems with my car outside of the normal wear and tear. This problem is the first stumper for me.

yeah the FD would cost more, true. But I can't wait to get my hands on a Twin-Turbo...... all these years of N/A has got me begging for more

thanks man

Oh, I forgot to mention........ever since this problem, my car has been idling rough and has a little trouble getting going in the cold weather. Could this be due to the rich mixture ?
