Debating with dealership

I took the rex over to the dealership so they could stick a new exhaust gasket in there and do an oil change while they were at it. I got the bill, and they used 5W-30 oil. I always use 10W-30 or 10W40 I can't remember at the moment. Anyway, I don't think they are right for using 5W-30 oil. Should I just drain it out and put the heavier weight oil in? I know most people on here use a heavy weight oil. Thanks

For an 86, yes 5W30 should not be used unless you are driving in temps below 25F

S4 oil:

Look on the back of the oil bottle. There should be a scale of temperatures in which you use what ever weight of oil.

I'd guess that your weather isn't too different from ours (overlooking the wind.)

I use 10W30 in the winter and 20W50 in the summer.

And what are you doing taking your 7 to a dealership for those things? You could do all that yourself easily...

I avoid dealership garages like the plague. I only go to look at the new cars or hit up the parts dept.

There is the occasion now and then when they hire a true "rotary" guy, but they never seem to stay that long.

Yeah if I were you I would also avoid dealerships "like the plaque". They overcharge you, and the work they do is almost always worse than rotary shops. The only advantage I can think of is accountability of the quality of service, parts, etc.

Try to learn to DIY. You will find that it saves you a lot of money and headaches (if you know what you are doing), plus you'll get to know your car more!

Id take it back and make them put the proper weight in to tell you the truth. Its the dealer, they 'should' know what the car requires. Show them the page of the FSM that recommends 10w30 or 20w50 or whatever you need

Thanks guys, I do some work on the car myself, but my dad never taught me how to weld (the exhaust). I usually do the oil changes myself as well as a few electronics modifications. Definitely the last time I take the car to them for anything. Frickin retards over there. They claim that they put 5w-30 in all the rx-7's they work on. Maybe thats why I don't see many rex's around here.....

Who cares what they claim. Their FSM recommends something else...
