Dead Turbo II
Hi guys,
My name is Antony and I live in Torquay,England.I have just bought a 1990 Turbo II as a non runner.
The car wont start ,and has been like it for 18 months and I got it a couple of weeks ago.
I have tried the following:-
Tow start at speed - nothing. Not even a cough or splutter!!
ATF treatment - again ,no luck.
I have a spark and I have fuel(I think - I can see/smell it on the plugs)
If the engine is low on compression surely it would start on a tow start, even if only to run poorly.
As I said, the motor just spins when I try to start it - it doesnt even try to start or catch or fire.
Anybody have any ideas???
Please??
Thanks,
Antony

hey anthony,
I think that u might have no compression in one rotor or maybe both. If this is the case the car wouldn't even try to start. So no matter if u did try to start it from a roll or a push start nothing would happen i say do a compression test and see what u come up with. Hope this helps

I think that fault codes would be a possibility, but havent a clue as to how to read them, where the connectors are or how to interpret them.I have a Haynes manual on order - you cant get them in the UK for RX7's - had to order one of the US versions!!(Haynes are based not too far from me as well!!).
I think a compression test sounds like a good bet - is the procedure described in these posts anywhere?
Also - if the seals have gone ,how feasible is DIY replacement?(Obviously a big job ,but I know a few good mechanics, but no-one with any real rotary knowledge)
I desperately want to get the car sorted as it was a bit of a bargain and is worth my while to fix ,but without spending too much money(The Holy Grail!!)

It's not too accurate, but it'll give you a general idea if you're getting decent compression on all three faces or not for each rotor...

Good luck with the car!

There is a small but dedicated rotary cult in Europe and it'd be a good idea to check out the section of this forum that pertains to the Old-Country rotorhead. Click here...
Good luck with the car and hopefully you get it running.

A somewhat local place to go for help....
HURLEY ENGINEERING LIMITED
10-16 Arbury Avenue
Foleshill

Their web site URL: http://www.hurley-engineering.ltd.uk/
Not necessarily an endorsement, but from their web site they seem to be a pretty knowledgeable Wankle shop.
Good luck. Maybe you can get me tickets to next years Wimbledon.
