Exclamation Dead trailing coils

So I restabbed the CAS, to reset the timing as the timing was seriously advanced, but when verifying the trailing timing, I had nothing. Just last week, I tested the coils and they were fine, but I don't know how to test the igniters. Should I replace the igniters, or how would I even go about doing so?

First, a bad AFM, then bad plug wires. Now bad trailing coils, and the car still won't start. I have fuel, spark, and compression, though without the trailing coils, I'm not sure if the car can start, much less run.

Anyway, help/advice would be helpful.

use an ohmmeter to test the resistance between the two terminals on the coils. they should read >1ohm according to the FSM.

does the tach on the dash work? If it does the coils and ECU are working.

Either way (if they are working or not) the trailing coils are only used for extra burn and gas mileage. The car will run without them even hooked up.

The few and rare times I have gotten the motor to start, the tach has worked, but would die immediately afterwards. I have fuel, (leading) spark, and compression (though I dont know how much, as I don't have a compression checker). I have a good, working AFM now.

At this point I have no idea whats wrong with the car.

you need to do a compression check. It sounds like the car is flooding, or has low compression, or a major vac leak.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. The car doesn't seem to be flooding, as it takes several tries cranking before I even begin to smell fuel from the DP, and the unflood procedure has absolutely no fuel spray from the plug holes.

Pass the word on: the afm isn't used during the Starting of the engine.

Pass the word on: the engine can be flooded and you won't see gobs of fuel exiting the exaust.

Pass the word on: your car is flooded and there is no oil around the rotors to seal the compression. You need to inject MOTOR oil into the rotors one way or the other. Then KILL the fuel pump and use a two second spray of starter fluid in the air filter, then start the engine to clear it ou.
