Dead battery

In my 88 RX7n non turbo, the battery is dead, won't even turn the engine over. When we go to pull start it, it still won't start. Is it the battery? also, what is the part between the actuators on the intake? It was smoking the other day. Thanks for any help.

my car wouldnt pull start when my alternator went out, just take it to schucks or whatever and have them run the tests on your alternator

Assuming no other problems, if your battery is dead and you can't start it by pushing, it's probably your alternator (or, possibly, a bad connection).

A picture would help. Are you referring to the Air Flow Meter, the large component in the intake pipe? If the smoke is coming from the connector, you may have a short or a loose connection in your electrical system somewhere. Check all the battery cables at all points to make sure they are tight and not corroded internally. Tug on them as well as checking the bolts/nuts for tightness. Check the connections at the alternator also.

Post a picture if you can. That will likely get you more definitive help.
