damn water pumps...

well i've been spending the past couple weeks putting in another 13B into my rx7...everything runs somewhat ok. i can get the car started, but then again, since the engine HAS been sitting for about a year in my storage, it may have trouble with compression...but heres my thing: we installed the water pump, and it leaked. yes we put all new gaskets, and we tried another water pump. its leaking where the water pump housing connects to the block itself. at the bottom of the gasket. any suggestions? and also my car starts up, yet throttle response is really shitty, doesnt idle again. it was idling last week, but we had to remove the intake manifold again and throttle body to check the injectors. it may be the injectors, so i'm gonna take those over to the shop today. but anyways, has any one here had a motor sit for a long period of time before swapping it in? if so, what was the start up like? smooth or rough? thanks in advance, RJ

are you guys using rtv??? I would use some of that on the gaskets on both sides while applying it the correct way. Put the rtv on the gasket (both sides) and bolt down the waterpump only until the rtv starts to seep out and then stop, wait about 20 or so minutes and then tighten all the way. Also make sure both surfaces are complete free of any old gasket / rtv.

you forgot to put shims on the two mounting points that are to the left of the oval spacee where the water pump bolts up!!!!!!!!!!!! The pump housing is being warped...

get a new gasket and use a thin coat of RTV on it and use piececs of the old gasket to shim the other two mounting points (there are four on the oval that the main gaskett sits on and two over to the left that you need to put shims on.!!!)

shims were done..i just forgot to mention that...heh...i also failed to mention the rtv was put on. what happens if the rtv was put on, and everything bolted without letting it sit there for 20 minutes?

I generally let RTV cure for 10-15 minutes before assembly.

Gaskets - We don't need no stinkin gaskets..

RTV rules!

could the water pump be the cause of over heating after about 10 minutes of driving?
