damn! install turbo now car smokes bad!

Well I just installed my new turbo like some of you may know and now my car smokes like a ****!! I did convert to premix and I do have 720cc primaries however I turned the primaries down on idle via safc and still the problem is there. I know the car will smoke a tad bit more when you premix but not like this, its a damn smoke screen. I've only let it idle for about 10 minutes on about 3 differant occations however nothing clears up. As a matter of fact it gets worse the hotter the engine gets. Anyone have any ideas? How can I check if it is the turbo or not?

That's pretty damn strange considering the turbo was never used (and is brand new). Have you tried to drive it at all?

now i'm starting to reconsider BNR, it is a odd coincidence that you and another member who recently installed a BNR both have the same problem. was it smoking before the new turbo was installed?

What color smoke just out of curiousity? Premix burns blue, where engine oil is a little bit of a lighter color. What was your pre-mix ratio btw?

In my opinion, it has to be the turbo. When the exhaust side heats up, it smokes even more. I am usually wrong on most things, though, ask my wife.

I know sonic thats kind of strange. however I did see that thread Karak so it does have me a bit worried. My ratio is 100:1 I believe. 1 oz per gallon whatever that amounts to, I've heard it's 100:1 and others say that is 128:1. Anyways as soon as I can scrape up some money I'm going to get new exhaust gaskets (talk about not cheap, any good alternatives besides the copper gaskets?) and I'm also going to get all new oem turbo gaskets as well (oil and coolant) After this I'm going to try it again to see what happens. Hopefully it will clear it up but I'm doubtfull. The smoke is a whitish color I believe but will look closer next time I fire it up after the seals get ordered.

sonic I haven't tried to drive it yet as I don't want to untill I find out why it's smoking so badly.

I hope for my sake you are wrong junky

My turbo smoked previously as well, bryan sent me another line with a restricted oil inlet and the smoking stopped. Have you spoke with him yet?

no I haven't yet as I wan't to make sure it's nothing on my end. Once I'm sure it is the turbo I'll let bryan knows whats going on and will go from there. I don't distrust bnr at all because he has a good rep so I really have to doubt myself first. Even though I've taken off and put on a turbo on this car about 6 times and all with no illefects however like I said I'm going to make sure it's not me first. So what kind of restricter are you talking about? Is this something he sells or just a special item? Thanks.

It's a re-done oil inlet line for the turbo. Basically an oil line that is welded shut on one end, and then re-drilled with a smaller hole than originally was there.

Quit trying to make the car faster, Honda dude, and you'll quit having problems, lol...

It's 128:1, BTW. Think about it...128 ounces of gas in a gallon, and 1 ounce of premix...

100:1 would be 1.28 ounces per gallon, which is about what I'm currently running, after all of those years of testing

lol, your not joking man. I keep asking myself over and over agian why I started this new upgrade project but I guess if I stick with it like i've done already then soon enough it's going to be a beast! Thanks for the ratio explination I never knew how many ounces where in a gallon and now I do how many gallons are in a half a tank of gas in our cars? 6 right?

If the smoke is white, isn't it more likely coolant leaking into the exhaust side of the turbo?

Smell it. That'll tell you what it is! Also, coolant tends to dissipate kind of quickly, it doesn't linger as much as oil. Oil will cloud up and make a hell of a screen that just floats around.

From the ATP site:
The Oil Inlet Fitting With Oil Control - Our custom CNC machined oil inlet fitting is a simple but elegant solution. Unlike the older T turbos, the GT Ball Bearing turbos use an inverted ¼” flare inlet. Our inlet fitting is designed as a simple adapter that screws on to the top of the turbo while allowing any -4 AN style oil feed line to screw onto it. In addition, we have incorporated a precisely drilled (.035) hole into the body of the fitting in order to restrict the excessive flow of oil (typically during morning startup) into the bearing housings that can overwhelm and blow the oil seals. We have seen oil leakage problems virtually disappear since we have begun using these fittings in all of our kits.
