Daily Driver - Non Rotary - Opinions

Well since I hit a deer and getting my 2001 Impreza RS back soon. I guess its time to trade it off on something else. Wrecked cars never seem to be the same as new. So...Anyone have any suggestions about decent new cars under like 25k. I was thinking of a VW GTI 1.8T but haven't decided yet. I am still browsing carpoint for more information. Anyone have other cars I should look at?

MP3 or MP5 if you want another 4-door. For a little more than $25,000 you can get a Mercedes Benz C-Coupe. 2 door hatchback with a supercharged engine and a 6 speed manual trans.

What are you looking for?
New or used (and how used)?
2 or 4 door?
preferred performance level 0-60?
preferred performance cornering?

I like 2 dr cars.....I hate hauling people around. Performance not to big of a deal around 150-170hp would be nice. I like handling much more than HP for a daily driver. And it would have to be new.

If you don't need perfect handling for day to day driving, I would get (what I did get) a Toyota Tacoma pickup.

The 200HP V6 gets 20 MPG city. You can get an 4 seat extra cab Pre-runner or 4WD (depending on if you really need 4WD or not) for easliy under $25K, And you can haul stuff, and if the RX-7 breaks down you can tow it home easily.

And as a plus; the built in United States Toyota Tacoma is by far the best handling and most reliable of the small trucks.

I thought about a truck but found a few bad things about my first truck. People always wanted me to haul **** and the *** end gets way to lose the way I drive. I guess I could always just slow down.....na.... what fun would that be

GTI is nice, you could wait for the Lancer EVO VII, but that is not for another year or two. I would personally go for a Miata. If you want a fast car, get a Nissan 240SX, and order a SR20DET. For a new car, WRX, or the GTI.

So far the service on my Impreza has been poor to say the least....the Subaru dealership is lacking to say the least so that leaves out the WRX for me.....but if there was a 2dr version I might think about it I will have to look at Nissan. Never really thought about it

The 240SX is a solid car, with or with out turbo. I suggested the SR20DET engine cuz you might like that "whoosh" noise when you let off the throttle, since you are used to it!
www.zilvia.net is a great source for Nissan info, parts, and services. Check it out!!

IMO, you should consider a car that is the antithesis of your "other" car. For example, I own a fast, good-handling, two-seater that gets bad gas mileage and requires attention to service. My other car is a not-as-fast, smooth-riding (for bumpy roads), 5-seater that gets very good gas mileage and next-to-no maintenance.

I would recommend a Solara or (gasp!) a Lincoln LS, since you don't like 4 doors - something that isolates you from the road, is quiet, and gets good gas mileage. That way, when you feel like being "sporty" you can hop in the '7 - when you feel like "Oh crap, it's raining, dark, I'm low on gas and hate my life" you'll love driving the "boat". What's the point of owning an FC and S13? They're practically the same car!

MHO, YMMV.

I haven't actually driven my TII in almost a year. Hell I wouldnt know what it feels like to drive it again. I got pissed off cause I was gonna have to replace alot of the same parts in 2 consecutive upgrades so I just held off on the rebuild. I have always liked hatchbacks for some damn reason....I guess cause they are a little different too. I called around to some of the VW places to see what kind of deal they are gonna give me and to the bank who said that I should refinance my car loan cause interest is like 3% lower now lol....I need to stay on top of this ****.

Just one question? How did you like the RS? I am looking into getting one and I was wondering if you could brake the tires free. Yes I can four wheel drift. However, don't they have anti slip ATSI systems installed or some ****?

Stock tranny and clutch seems a bit to week to do to many burnouts and so forth....yea you can get them free with enough rpm and dumping the clutch....but really not to good on them. Get a WRX if your looking for something a little better than an RS. And yes the traction control stops most of the fun but there is ways to disable this.

What about a rsx? I know it's a Honda/Acura, but hey, they are the best daily drivers, and the rsx's handle pretty well, the one i drove did anyways.

How about the new 2003 Tiburon 181hp 177ft lbs of torque plus a 10 year warranty. I don't know how far you are from Columbus but if you are interested I sell at a Hyundai dealership, pm me if you are interested.

The reliability on that setup would be incredible. One would only have to occasionally replace the carrot.

good gas mileage too... but I don't know about emissions...

I say hold out for MAZDASPEED's protege. basically a turbo MP3. or you could get an RX8 when they come out.

If you're going to get a new car, I suggest you wait to get something you really want. to me thats the point of getting a new car.

Try a nissan altima with 3.5L V-6 and manual trans. That'll make a nice car. May be pushing your budget though.
