Unhappy Cuts off while driving

My RX will just cut off while driving down the road. It has good plugs and wires sometimes it will just start it self back up cause its a stick but other times i am stuck on the side of the road for 10-15 mins. Once i had to have it towed and it started after 3 days. When it is off nothing works except headlights and emergency flashers. No radio, Power power options, no cig lighter, etc. Please help me I hate being stuck on the side of the road in my RX. I would much rather be driving it!

Sounds like the things left working are the things that are wired directly to the battery (work even when the key is off). I would check the wiring fuses and the ignition switch.

Check to make sure the Main relay just behind the drivers strut tower under the hood is not loose (either the connector or the relay itself).

I'm With IceMark!!!

I agree with Icemark. I had the same problem when I first got my 7, and it turns out that the main fuse in the car had been replaced by some cheap 60 amp fuse that didn't even fit in there right. If you pushed down on the fuse, it would work for a bit, then the car would just die on it's own, sometimes restarting on it's own, sometimes not. I just replaced it with the correct 80 amp fuse and it works like a charm now!! Except for that freaing oil leak...grrrr....

I can duplicate your problem at will. There is a single connector, black wire, located six to eight inches below your black rectangular fuse box in the engine bay. This connector, if pulled apart while the engine is running, WILL kill the engine and still give you headlights. Its either that connector or the key assy. Maybe. Sorta maybe. How about a 50/50 chance?
