custom interior
I am trying to lighten up my car for that extra amout of speed, but i also want it to look somewhat presentable. I am currently changing to roll down windows, putting racing seats, and im going to replace the door panels with maybe aluminum, or even (i saw this on speedvision) some thick cardboard with leather coverings for looks. Any suggestions? I also want to rodo the dash, but i dont know what i should do. Also do you think I should go with a color scheme(i have a burgandy now, thinkin about black or red), or something else? Any help is appreciated.
go black interior... power windows weight less.. if your coverting for weight??? i dont really know about the full leather door panels... maybe a 2 type thing.. leather trim along the bottom and carpet along the uppar part!
I had a buddy that drilled holes in certain parts of the car, then put the stock coverings back on, for instance, here is a picture of the dash. He got a car that weighed 3200#'s w/ out driver down to 2600#'s w/ out driver and a full interior ( at least it looked full

I like those panels, they are really nice, but what i was talking about was replacing the entire door piece, not just the cloth parts. If you have, or know where i can get CF, or other types of door replacements (I was thinking about just using aluminum) please let me know.
It's true, power windows DO WEIGHT LESS. IT's been brought up TIME AND TIME AGAIN! KEEP the power ones.
Oh yeah, please don't listen to [forum member who owns a '90 mustang and non-running N/A RX-7]. He seems to hate the RX more than like it. Perhaps p/w weigh more than roll down in stangs, but this is a PROVEN topic that roll downs weigh MORE than p/w.
Yes, p/w's have a . But how do you think roll downs work? the handle magically makes the glass go up and down ?
The MECHANISM for the roll down is about 2-3# heavier than the electric
.
You can find more weight crap here... https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...&threadid=5666

Wow, you have a heavy car at 2600lbs w/o driver. Mine is an `86 with full interior (less trunk pad) and only weights 2460 w/o driver. I haven't even started the diet yet.
As to the controversy about the power vs manual window mechanisms... Power windows CAN use a lighter mechanism than the manuals, but most of them simply replace the crank handle with an electric coupled to a gear reduction box. From what I've seen, the two doors are probably about the same in weight. (at least for second gens)
Manual windows aren't as studly, and tradition holds that race cars don't have power windows. Manual windows have far fewer (if any problems) in their service life, and are a whole lot cheaper to fix if they do.
My friend has a parts car with power windows and I'm interested to see the actual mechanism for the window. I know the only weighs a pound or so, but never looked at the mechanism.

for black with out ac is trouble. Gets really hot and you get the picture. Red is just not my taste, kinda a pet peeve.
But if you keep the ac, or don't mind the feeling of stale heat when its warm out then go with black.
